About this listen

Following on from D.W. Ross' debut novel Cold From The North, The Darkest Dusk is the next instalment of the adventures of Ogulf Harlsbane and his allies as they attempt to thwart the advances of malevolent forces trying to take over the realm of Gelenea.

Battle lines are drawn all over the continent as the march of The Order of Maledict continues, Ogulf and his companions must summon magical weapons which have the potential to even the odds, and all the while powerful new players emerge among the fray, bringing with them vast armies and new abilities as the struggle for control intensifies.

With the fate of the world in the balance, can they march of the Onyxborn be stopped?

The Onyxborn Chronicles brings with it all the elements that create a truly magnificent fantasy story; an expansive world full of unique and diverse locations, characters who are defined by their surroundings and upbringing, a magic system that fuels the plot (but isn't overused), intense battle and action scenes, prophecy used to allude to the ending and question a character's role in the plot, and a quest that gathers our main characters (and villains) together.

The cliché line for a second book in a series is "*insert author* took everything from book one and elevated it into something more", but that is just so true here. Ross expanded his world, developed the lore and magic system, humanised his characters more, intensified the political maneuvering and deepened the plot to leave you totally immersed in this book.

This book is truly a testament to the level of Indie Fantasy out there at the moment. I've likened this series to a Viking Wheel of Time story (but with Jordan's excesses trimmed out). What you have here is an honest, classic fantasy story with a modern narrative that is expertly written.

Do yourselves a favour, read this series. You honestly won't regret it.
