Summary

Penguin presents the audio download edition of The Creakers by Tom Fletcher, read by Samantha Bond with an introduction by the author.

What silently waits in the shadows at night? What's under your bed, keeping just out of sight?

Do you ever hear strange, creaking noises at night? Ever wonder what makes those noises?

Lucy Dungston always did.

Until, one morning, Lucy discovers that all the grown-ups have disappeared - as if into thin air. Chaos descends as the children in Lucy's town run riot. It's mayhem. It's madness. To most kids, it's amazing!

But Lucy wants to find out the truth. Lucy lost her dad not long ago, and she's determined not to lose her mum too. She's going to get her back - and nothing is going to stop her... except maybe the Creakers.

Creaky freaky!

I loved the sense of humour mixed in with a little bit of children's fright novels! Tom fletcher has really out done himself and created a book for all ages, involving mysterious twists and creatures that lurk under the bed at night.this is a great book for children age 5 and above, younger reader than 5 could read with an adult and this book has great reading boosters because of the size of the words and the actual words themselves, they are not that hard to read aloud!

The Creakers

This book had huge potential and could have been very enjoyable if the author had just done the introduction and left it at that as his interruptions were annoying and unnecessary as Samantha Bond was just perfect in her narration. I would have given it the full 15 stars then

Wonderful on a long car journey

The whole family thoroughly enjoyed it. Bit scary in places for the seven year old but she absolutely loved it in spite of this.

Two reviews in one - adult and child's opinion

I got this for my son who recently read 'The Christmasaurus' and really enjoyed it. The same wasn't true of this book, sadly. The book constantly breaks the fourth wall, and Fletcher himself keeps interrupting the reading to 'check up on the listener'. It became too confusing for my son to follow, and he gave up, preferring to stare out of the car window as we drove along for the bank holiday weekend - harsh judgement indeed.

As an adult, I found it easier to follow and understood at what point Bond was talking to the listener, and at what point she was dictating the story - and thought she did a good job of reading. But the book wasn't meant for me.

I'm writing this review only half way through the book. I got it for my son, and he has no further interest in it, so I'm returning it. Equally, it would be unfair to mark down the story too much as I don't know the full plot. I found it interesting, but too much of a childs book to listen on myself after my son stopped.

Quite sweet!

I haven't read a kids' story in ages but this one reminded me of how good it feels to let my mind rest and just enjoy a simple adventure. Although this one wasn't quite as simple as one might have expected. It was brilliantly written and had all the fun expected from a children's book. I adored the audible experience so much. They made it sound like a bed story time and the fact that Tom made an appearance here and there made it all even more enjoyable.
