Summary
Compton Magna and Nether Bagot sit high on the Fosse Hills to either side of the Gloucestershire/Warwickshire border, just half a mile apart. They form the backdrop to this rich story of secrets and rivalries, as glamorous Ronnie Ledwell returns to take up the reins of her father's horse breeding stud farm, years after she scandalised family and friends by eloping with her lover. News of her return will well and truly set the cat among the pigeons....

Can't wait for the sequel Country lover's
Loved this book. Liked the narration. Really want to know what happens next. As soon as the next in the series becomes available on audible I will be getting it. So hurry up Amazon and get it on.

Wonderful. Six stars if possible
I thought this was absolutely brilliant. I loved every minute. The narrator is excellent too. Really can’t wait to get going on book number two in the trilogy. I’ve only read one other novel by Fiona Walker before now (I think it was called “The Woman Who Feel in Love For A Week” ) and I loved that too and gave it five stars. Fiona Walker is fast becoming one of my favourite writers of romantic comedies. There are books you can’t finish, then there are books you just can’t put down and race to finish, and then there is that really special ‘breed’ of books: books you can’t put down and yet don’t want to finish and leave the wonderful world and characters behind. I’m so pleased this one has a sequel. After a truly dreadful year with very serious illness/Covid and then the horrors of “long Covid” (now fully recovered thankfully) Fiona Walker got me through the last few weeks of that. I am very grateful — this book was a real uplift during some truly dark times. Thank you Fiona Walker for such a wonderful, entertaining and well-written read. Your characters and the world they inhabit spring off the page. Can’t wait to read all your other books.

Pony books for grown ups
A delight to hang out in horsey heaven again. Slightly spoiled by the narrator’s caricatures- thoroughly undermines any romance and gets in the way of any attempt at characterisation.
Please commission the sequel, Audible!

Little laughs out loud
It's not often a book makes me chuckle to myself as I'm listening but this one really does, it's the little details and quirky jokes that make this something special. I was new to Fiona Walker so I was pleased with this real find. It's a gem of a book and Jilly Bond is really bringing out the humour.

What a surprise!
I bought this as the ideal listen whilst mucking out stables and general yard work, expecting a quick, somewhat superficial, romp among the horsey crowd. But it didn't take me long to alter my expectations. I've never read Fiona Walker before but will most definitely be searching for more of her work. Her writing is wonderful and often thought provoking. Instead of dipping in and out as my concentration was taken elsewhere I found myself stopping what I was doing so that I could listen intently. Such a delightful surprise.
The narrator was, alas, completely wrong for the book. Jilly Bond has a voice that suits older style writing. Hers is not at all a voice for a contemporary story. Her characterisations are woeful here and I think she might at least have learned the correct pronunciation of 'covert' - to mean woody copse -. I'm glad I didn't let the narrator put me off though, the story itself is rather fabulous.
