About this listen

Prepare for the final descent into darkness.

Sunday Times and New York Times bestselling author Peter V. Brett brings one of the most imaginative fantasy sagas of the twenty-first century to an epic close.

The war has begun…

For time out of mind, bloodthirsty demons have stalked the night, culling the human race to scattered remnants dependent on half-forgotten magics to protect them.

Two heroes arose — men as close as brothers, yet divided by bitter betrayal. Arlen Bales became known as the Painted Man, tattooed head-to-toe with powerful magic symbols that enable him to fight demons in hand-to-hand combat — and emerge victorious. Ahmann Jardir, armed with magically warded weapons, called himself the Deliverer, a figure prophesied to unite humanity and lead them to triumph in Sharak Ka — the final war against demonkind.

But in their efforts to bring the war to the demons, Arlen and Jardir have set something in motion that may prove the end of everything they hold dear — a Swarm. Now the war is at hand, and humanity cannot hope to win it unless Arlen and Jardir, with the help of Arlen’s wife, Renna, can bend a captured demon prince to their will and force the devious creature to lead them to the Core, where the Mother of Demons breeds an inexhaustible army.

Trusting their closest confidantes, Leesha, Inevera, Ragen, and Elissa, to rally the fractious people of the Free Cities and lead them against the Swarm, Arlen, Renna, and Jardir set out on a desperate quest into the darkest depths of evil — from which none of them expects to return alive.

finally got to the end. the end was rather weak. the passing of the character lacked depth and tried to use the moment of what happened to sell itself but it just lacked impact.

plenty of scope for next book but won't be waiting as eager as was for this one.

I have over 300 audible titles and I have to say that the narration and performance of this book is one of the best I've heard. It's a compelling universe with a great story and awesome characters. I can't wait for a sequel.

GOOD BOOK

What a fantastic set of books!
Amazing characters!
Heart breaking moments!
Laugh out loud moments.
Tear in the eye moments.

Just wow. Not sure I've enjoyed a set of books this much.

And all brought to life by a really brilliant narrator. The voices he has for each character had me knowing who was talking before the characters name was mentioned.

Fantastic!

Wow

Love a good fantasy world but sick of the same old regurgitated story of some hero in some besieged kingdom or some sort of wizard in a magical battle or even some kind of orc or elf spin off??!
Well that has been me for so long.
Peter V Brett has created a new kind of world with new rules and a new story line, I can’t rate this series enough, I just love it. A world where you can really relate to and really get to know the characters, you can actually feel like you are there with them, living the story with them.
If you don’t like a story based around a lot of character building this story is not for you.
I must point out that I did physically read the books numerous times before acquiring the audio book so I was in love with the story before it’s narration, which I must admit I’m not in love with, I feel you loose some of the love for certain characters when the narration doesn’t quite portray them as it is written in the book.
Whether you only listen to audio or you read as well this is a definite must must must!

Just what the fantasy genre needed

Wow. A really good final book in the trilogy by Peter V Brett. Follows on straight from book two. Just as gripping and can’t put ‘downable’ as the others. I couldn’t stop listening. Best way to spend the lockdown isolated all on my own.
