Summary

Evan

Eight years ago, I was cast out of my family, out of my pack, out of the very land that had nurtured me since I was born. The charge? Shifting in front of a human.

It might have been worth the banishment...if I’d actually done the crime.

Now that my alpha is dead, I’m coming back home. I’m determined to return triumphant, to prove myself as the next bloodline alpha.

Pack politics are complicated. But meeting Mike, my own sweet, eager omega? Loving him is the simplest thing I’ve ever done in my life.

Too bad I can’t keep him.

Mike

Gypsum is a small town. Crowded with tourists in the winter, dead economy in the summer. I’ve always dreamed of roaming beyond its borders, seeing the world through the lens of my camera.

When he comes to town, it’s like a little slice of that forbidden, exotic world comes with him.

I know that getting involved with Evan is a bad idea...but I don’t know how to stay away.

And finding out he’s my fated mate? Well, that changes everything.

The Alpha Comes Back is a mpreg shifter audio book featuring a brooding alpha, a small town omega, and one guaranteed happy ending. Each audio book in the Gypsum series can be listened to in any order.

as good as the ebook

The story is always 4 or 5 stars, because if I wouldn't like the story as ebook, I wouldn't listen to the audiobook. The performance from the narrator is also very important for me. I can't listen to a lot, because my English as a non-native-speaker isn't so perfect to follow a whole story over hours, when the narrator speaks too fast or too sloppy. Normally I have to SEE the person, who is talking to me in English. It took me a little bit, to come into the narrator, but at the end, it worked. I only have to take a few breaks between. I'm just not yet finish with the book, but I listen enough to give a review. PLEASE READ MY RATING SYSTEM!!! To my ratings: 5* - very very good it's like an A+ 4* - very good and will be often re-listening it's like an A 3* - it's more then a one-time-listening. it's like a B

Great comeback for Evan...

Evan was banned from his pack and he had to live on his own without his family. When his father dies, he goes back to his hometown, to his mother and brother. Still resentful and plotting his revenge and instead he found his one, he found love. But their relationship won’t come easy, they have to risk so much to be together. Mike is the sweetest omega. They are great characters and I’d like to read Lance’s story.

😣 Story. With Disappointing Narration.

I'm a fan of Preston Walker and have listened to many of his books with great enjoyment. This one in my opinion is not one of his best. I didnt care for it. The storyline was weak, the characters vapid, especially Evan. I dont know how he thought he was qualified, strong, or had the leadership to become Alpha. He definitely wasn't strong enough. Heck, he wasn't as strong as a beta. Josh Cates narration and voice acting was a disappointment. Evan sounded wimpy, other characters sounded to much alike. Evan though I dislike this book, it will not deter me from listening to other books by PW. But with this series, and narrator, I'm not sure I'm going to buy or listen to book2.🤔

Ok story

Evan Cook is kicked out of his pack at 18, by his father, over accusations that he let humans know about shifters. Years later, he returns to his pack, after his father's death, with plans to take over as alpha even though his older brother has already taken over that position. No one in his pack is happy to see him back, except his mother and brother, so he decides to show the people in their town that he is not what his reputation makes him to be. His plans are derailed when, in the mood to hook up, he meets sweet omega Mike Adams, from another pack, whose brother actually testified against Evan and contributed to his exile. Even so, they hook up and things change for both of them. This is a fated mates trope, Evan and Mike realize that they are mates pretty quickly, and they fall in love practically instantly. The narrator does a great job, he has a pleasant voice, read the story in a natural tone of voice, hit the right emotional notes, and each character was distinctive and was able to express the story as written. The story was not my favorite, honestly. I didn't connect with Evan, I thought he was bratty, he came home to his pack to take over, but he never had any concrete plans to make any improvements for his pack, and other than his righteous anger at his exile, there really wasn't any good reason for wanting to be alpha. He also treated Mike dishonestly, not wanting to let Mike and his needs get in the way of his plans, even though they are fated mates. I also found Mike a little too desperate for Evan from the very beginning of their relationship, even when Evan is acting distant and casually dismissive. I thought that most of the conflict that drove the plot was flimsy, Evan and Mike could have saved themselves a lot of trouble by speaking and being honest with everyone, and the antagonist of the last scene seemed thrown in for no other reason than to try to make it exciting, after all thinking and talking and sneaking around. I kept asking myself "why don't they just talk to people?" which made me feel annoyed at both MCs and bored with the slow pace and lack of development of the story.

A very enjoyable listening naration by Mr. Cates

This book was well written, the character development and the story lines flow effortlessly. Evan was expelled by his Alpha father who would rather believe lies than his own sons truth's. He is banished only to return 8 yrs. later when he dad dies. His brother is now the Alpha. Things are different, but also the same. He runs into Mike, a bartender and an omega he finds him interesting and wants to get to know him better. The story takes off from their. It's a well rounded and well thought out book. I am looking forward to the next book in the series. An avid listener/reader in Rock Tavern, NY.

You Can Go Back Home

Alpha Evan returns home after the death of his father, the Pack Alpha. Evan was thrown out of his pack based on a lie from another packmate. At the bar, where Evan went to unwind, was the bartender, an omega. The attraction is immediate for both shifters. Too bad being fated doesn't make a relationship easy. And Evan needs to find his own place in the pack he has been away from for eight years. Narrator Josh Cates brings the feels to the story. His voice, and the cadence he uses to keep the flow going, are easy to listen to.

Evan has been gone for eight years and now is home

Evan was banished from Gypsum by his father for something he didn't do. Now, after his father's death he has returned. Mike has lived in Gypsum all his life and never left. He's dreamed of leaving and creating a travel blog. Mike is a bartender and Evan comes in for a beer. Time goes by and they discover they are fated mates but Evan's past reputation gets in the way. I enjoyed every aspect of this audio book, characters, story line, and narration. Anxiously awaiting the release of another audio book in the series.

Better in audio.

I like this book in print but loved iron audio. You felt the frustrations and passions as if you were ease dropping. Star crossed lovers find each other years latter and there relationship went threw growing pains but they made it work.

Wow Love it...

Wow Love this audio. Preston Walker sure knows how to get your attention and keep it till the end. Evan and Mark are Love at first sight then they are off the charts in their rough road till everything works their way together. Josh Cates did a super job, could listen to him all day.

good listen

The Alpha Comes Back is the first book in the Wolves Of Gypsum series by Preston Walker. This is an mm romance with shifters and an mpreg. Evan and Mike are entertaining characters and the story is a good mix of drama, steam and romance. Josh Cates is the narrator of this story. Fantastic voicework and smooth recording. Great job.
