About this listen

Lance

Being the Cook pack alpha is harder than it appears. It’s not about ruling over anyone - it’s about leading them and keeping them safe. And I’ve got just the idea to make that happen: unite the packs of Gypsum. Anything else is going to have to come second to that goal right now.

Meeting Mason at a bar shouldn’t be so distracting to my focus. We never even went home together! But when Mason is injured by human hunters, I have to choose: the security of my pack? Or the safety of the omega who haunts my dreams?

Mason

You know those people where everything bad that could happen, always seems to happen to them? Multiply that and apply it to a family and you’ll understand where I’m coming from.

There’s only two of us left in my pack...if you can even call it a pack. The smart thing to do would be to find a mate, but with nothing to offer except a well-developed sense of humor, I don’t think anyone is about to come beating down my door.

Just meeting Lance Cook is a bright spot in my world. Flirting with such a fancy, wealthy alpha, mating with him? That’s beyond my wildest dreams.

The Red Omega is a mpreg shifter audiobook featuring a brooding alpha, a small town omega, and one guaranteed happy ending.

Each audiobook in the Gypsum series can be listened to in any order.

This is a brilliant book to listen to as we follow Lance when he meets Mason they have some fun but Mason thinks he doesn’t have time for a mate with being an Alpha when there are problems with hunters and then Mason being kidnapped. Lance realises that he wants to be with Mason.

This is the first book by Preston Walker that I have read or listened to, so I was coming to The Red Omega completely fresh. Although it is part of The Wolves of Gypsum series, I had no problem with it as a standalone.

Of the two main characters, Mason won my heart first. Despite being tall and well built, there is a vulnerability about this omega that endears him to me. He has a good sense of humour that can appear at the most inopportune moments. Lance is more dour, and takes his responsibilities seriously, too much so at times. Put together, the two work, although one recognises that they are fated mates a lot earlier than the other. So a good plotline provides some angst from this situation, and more drama is given by the addition of hunters.

The narration flows along nicely. Zachary Zaba sets a good pace which is ideal for the fairly short chapters and alternating main character POVs. I preferred listening to Mason's voice as it was lighter, rather than to Lance's gruffer tones. I sometimes struggled to hear the end of sentences with Lance. An enjoyable listen all in all, though.
