About this listen

Experience the final chapter of Ahren's epic, PLATIN-awarded adventure.

Ahren's enormous undertaking to unite the thirteen Paladins has, following years of dangerous journeying, come to a successful conclusion. Now there is only one task left for him to complete. He must lead the Champions of the gods, his other friends, and the free peoples of Jorath in an assault on the Obsidian Fortress. Yet the Adversary is intent on foiling his archenemies' plan before they reach his hordes lurking behind the compound walls. The Dark god's scheme is to spring the trap that was set centuries earlier in preparation for just such an event . . .

It's been quite an adventure. I admit, it was a bit annoying having two different narrators but they both did an amazing job of bringing the characters to life. Thoroughly enjoyable. I hope there'll be more from Torsten soon.

Great Ending to an Enjoyable Series

I thoroughly enjoyed this mammoth listen - from start to finish. I loved the characters and their personalities portrayed throughout by the amazing Gildart Jackson whose talent brought them all to life. Thank you to the author, Torsten, for creating, which for me, was an epic and thoroughly absorbing tale.

Torsten Witser’s The Adversary is a masterclass in modern fantasy—bold, intelligent, and completely immersive. From the very first page, you're thrown into a world that crackles with tension, vivid detail, and unforgettable characters. Witser doesn’t just build a fantasy world—he breathes life into it, crafting a story that feels both timeless and urgently relevant.

The Adversary introduces a protagonist who is both deeply human and mythically compelling, navigating a plot filled with moral complexity, relentless pacing, and genuinely jaw-dropping twists. Witser’s prose is cinematic yet deeply literary—think the grit of Joe Abercrombie with the scope of Brandon Sanderson, yet entirely its own beast.

And the series only gets better from there.

Each installment expands the mythology, sharpens the stakes, and deepens the emotional pull. Witser manages the rare feat of making each book feel more essential than the last, with layered character development and a world that never stops surprising you. The philosophical undercurrents—about power, identity, and sacrifice—give the entire saga a weight that lingers long after the final chapter.

By the time you finish the series, you're not just a fan—you’re an evangelist.

If you haven’t started The Adversary series yet, clear your schedule. This is the kind of story that keeps you up at night, grips your imagination, and leaves you craving more. A tour de force of dark, daring, and dazzling fantasy.

Five stars. No question.
