About this listen

Sam Baker couldn’t be more normal. He’s a teacher at the local middle school and the most exciting part of his day is dealing with a classroom full of hormonal preteens. His life takes a turn for the weird one stormy night when he finds a small boy on his doorstep. A boy who growls, flashes unnaturally blue eyes, demands for Sam to call the alpha - whatever that is - and gives Sam the one name he wishes he could forget: Vaughn Jerrick.

Vaughn Jerrick is the alpha to a pack of wolf shifters and a doctor to the supernatural world. After sharing a steamy one night stand with Sam years ago, Vaughn couldn’t consider the possibility of a future with the man, no matter how much he wanted him. Bringing a human into his world is against the rules, but one phone call changes everything, and Vaughn finds himself face-to-face with the man who could give him everything he’s ever wanted.

Rescuing one small child turns into saving six from a dark and uncertain fate, and although Sam doesn’t understand the world he’s been forced into, he would never turn his back on children in need, even if it means confronting his past with Vaughn.

As Vaughn and Sam join forces to protect the children put into their care, the future they’ve both dreamed of is within their reach, but first they need to survive the sinister force looking to rip away everything they’ve come to hold dear.

I think this was a good start and introduction to some of the many characters we will be encountering throughout the series. I'm excited to continue.
Michael Dean does a great job with his distinctive voices and keeping me in the story.
Now on to the next.

Good Start

I enjoyed this sweet and intriguing audiobook. It was the fun, suspenseful, story of fated mates Sam, a human, Vaughn, a wolf-pack Alpha shifter, and six kidnapped children, including shifters and a mage/seer. I enjoyed seeing the relationships form, but I am eager to dive into the next book, as this one gave more questions than answers. So many questions...about backgrounds, the children, the prophecy, and more. There is a soft cliffhanger ending, presumably leading into the next book.

The narration by Michael Dean is fantastic. He provided so many terrific voices, tones, and accents for all the characters.

I received a free copy of this audiobook and am voluntarily leaving this honest review.

I loved the set up that Sam is a middle school teacher who had one steamy night with Vaughn that both have never forgotten but have tried to put out of their minds. When a strange, injured young boy turns up on Sam's doorstep asking for Vaughn and talking about strange things like alphas, any reader of shifter romances knows just what Sam is about to learn and how that is going to rock his world. Fortunately, he's a strong man and he and Vaughn team up to rescue some children and the story is on its way. I cannot wait to see how this series develops and get answers to the questions raised in this initial entry. Michael Dean has done a wonderful job with the characters here. I was totally immersed in the story as his voice presented it, the characters were clearly delineated and all the suspense and emotion was right there to hear.

Great series introduction

I don’t even know what to say. This book hit me so hard in the feels that my eyes leaked a lot. 😊 It has magic, shifters, a human & werewolf fated mates couple, hellhounds and so much more.

Sam and Vaughn had a moment several years before this story starts and it didn’t end well. When Sam needs to reach out to Vaughn so that he can help a kid who knocked on his door, everything changes.

I can’t say enough good things about this book. Michael Dean’s performance is really wonderful. It isn’t that often that listening to an audiobook will bring out the deep feels for me but this one surely did and I loved everything about it. I can’t wait to start listening to the next one in the series.

A complimentary copy of this audiobook was provided to me at my request but my review was voluntary and not influenced by the author and/or narrator.

Amazing!

Independent reviewer for Gay Romance Reviews, I was gifted the audio version of this book.

This is a prequel, an introduction into this world. Future books are based around another group of people but Henry is found here.

I really enjoyed this! It was interesting and i was fully engaged from start to finish.

I loved that Sam and Vaughn had some history, before the events of that night bring them back together. I loved that things were not as they seemed, for a lot of things, but some things were patently obvious, to everyone else anyway!

There are werewolves and witches, bears and foxes and I've no doubt that other magical/mystical beings will appear as the series progresses. I really can't wait!

Henry is marked here, as a Guardian of The Chosen One and his and the other Guardians stories follow this.

Michael Dean narrates. I love his work, but I jumped into this right after another of his work, a much darker, deadlier piece, and I kept waiting for something to go terribly wrong! It does, but not quite in the way THAT book does!

Dean's voices are clear and different, I had no trouble keeping up with multiple people taking part in a conversation. His reading voice is deep and even and I cannot fault it!
