Summary

The heart-pounding thriller of a series continues as FBI Special Agent Meg Jennings and her search-and-rescue K-9 companion confront the fury of nature - and the more dangerous nature of man....

In the wake of a devastating hurricane, Special Agent Meg Jennings and her Labrador, Hawk - invaluable members of the FBI’s Human Scent Evidence Team - have been deployed to Virginia Beach. They have their work cut out for them. Amid graveyards of debris, and the buried cries for help, the search and rescue operation begins. The most alarming discovery is yet to come - a teenage girl hiding in the Great Dismal Swamp.

Shaken by the storm, she has reason to be scared. But this young survivor is terrified of so much more. Her name is Emma - a disheveled runaway lost to the sordid underbelly of a Virginia sex-trafficking ring. Its leader has disappeared in the chaos - along with other victims. With so much evidence, and so many witnesses, seemingly washed away, Meg joins forces with Special Agent Walter Van Cleave to ensure no further harm comes to their vulnerable charge.

They soon discover that this is no small-time localized syndicate. Its branches are rooted in some of the most influential powers in Virginia. Now as Meg’s investigation digs deeper, she’s making some very dangerous enemies. And one by one, they’re coming out of the storm to stop her.

Search and Rescue; mystery/crime; humankind

Good story. Bit slow in the start but once it got underway, really enjoyed it. The search and rescue aspect is educational and from what I know correct; more than that, the plot and characters were intriguing. Bogged down here and there but all in all very enjoyable listen.

Great Story

Excellent book with a great ending! Narrator was good with a variety of voices! The beginning of the story dragged a little bit! However, It picked up and was a sad but real story! All Sara ‘s books have been interesting! Looking forward to next book!

Wonderful story, great characters, lots of action!

Loved it! I wasn't sure at first where the suspense and mystery, so common to this series was going to come from. That in itself was suspenseful! As usual the book starts out with a search and rescue, this time after a hurricane. A chance discovery of an submerged van on day 2 of the rescue leads Meg and her dog Hawk on a different rescue that sets the mystery in motion. Once again I was caught up in the drama and edge of your seat action. At times I held my breath as Meg and Hawk battled against the elements and even wildlife. I cheered as her and her friends and family untangled threads that lead to the capture of the bad guys. The romance deepens as Web and McCord become more involved with Meg and her sister. The sexy romance just sweetens the plot and does not overwhelm the story. Once again the performance of Angela Dawe makes this audio book come alive. Her ability to change vocal tones and pitches while taking on the personality of different characters, makes this sound like a performance by an entire Broadway cast not just one actress. Purely amazing performance. I could listen to the soothing voice of Angela Dawes narration over and over again. If a movie was ever made of Sara Driscoll's work, I might be hard pressed to believe that anyone can play these characters better then Angela Dawes plays them all. This book as all the books in the series is a winner! Settle down with your tea and a snack and listen to this audio selection!

Huge Miss

I just started this book and I like the series. There is huge mistake in the story that I can't ignore. Hurricane Harvey did not hit Florida, it hit HOUSTON. I lived through it so this error really erked me.
