Summary

In the fifth FBI K-9 novel, Sara Driscoll weaves together fast-paced suspense and the fascinating world of law enforcement canines, as Meg Jennings and her search-and-rescue dog, Hawk, are heading south, where it's hunting season. But this time the prey is human.

One arrow through the heart could be a tragic hunting accident. A second one, within days, looks more like a crime. That's when Meg Jennings and Brian Foster of the FBI's Forensic Canine Unit head to Georgia to investigate. With their dogs Hawk and Lacey, Meg and Brian are enlisted to follow the scent of a killer. At first, nothing seems to connect the two victims - a county commissioner and State Patrol officer. But the blood sport around the southern town of Blue Ridge is just beginning.

As the body count rises, the compound bow killer becomes even more elusive, appearing and vanishing like a ghost. However, with each new slaying Meg is beginning to suspect the grim design that's escalating in the shadows. A tragic event that reaches back nearly two centuries in Georgia's history is now turning Blue Ridge into a hunting ground. But as Meg gets closer to solving the puzzle, the closer she is to stepping into the crosshairs of an elusive murderer with deadly aim, and motives as deep and dark as the woods....

Like the author, hated the narrator.

I love this series, I loved the other books in the series and i loved Angela Dawe as the narrator. I don’t know why they changed the narrator for this book but in my opinion it was a huge mistake. Normally i don’t like to leave bad reviews for a narrator but i did for this book because the narrator ruined the book for me. Her tone of voice is off, there is no tone change between dialogues or characters or to show emotion Uggggh i hope they go back to Angela Dawe for the next book, if they don’t i will not be buying that book.

Good, but not

Liked the story, though it wasn't written as well as Driscoll's others. The new narrator definitely changed things up a bit. She didn't read it as fluently, and changing after 4 other books made it difficult to follow familiar characters. it was a good story line, but a better narrator would have made it better. not that the original narrator was all that great, but she was at least familiar with the characters and each voice was easier to identify.

New narrator ruins experience

Normally I devour the FBI K9 books in a day. This one has taken me over a week because I hate the new narrator. She doesn't get into the characters, has a mechanical voice, and generally sounds like a robot.

Without a Trace

I felt the other narrator was much better. Male voices were almost identical so difficult to know who was "talking".

Why do narrators change so far into a series???

I really enjoy these stories and characters, but the change in narrator for the fifth book in the series was very off putting and changed the whole feel of the stories and the characters that had been developed by the previous narrator. If you are a follower of the series through audio only you may be disappointed in the narration.

Different narrator needed

Would have been 5 stars except for the narrator. Hard to listen to her.

Don't change narrators!

Why oh why do you use a narrator for the first 3 books and on the 4th decide to use someone else! I almost couldn't continue once I heard the voice. It just isn't the same when you have the voice of each character in your head and then it changes. It messes up the whole flow of the book.

Didn't love it, didn't hate it

I got this book as part of a 2 for 1 Audible sale. For that price, I got fair value. I wasn't as engaged as I like to be, hard to tell if it was the story or narration.

Love the series

Each book brings a completely different mystery/crime to solve and this book delivers just as the others have in drama. There where enough twists to keep one guessing. Hope there are many more books in this series. For this book there was a new narrator and some reviews had issues with this narrator. I had several weeks between books so this wasn’t as much of an issue for me as others keep on writing about Meg and Hawk and the gang.
