Henry Morgan went to a baseball game hoping to catch a pop fly - not an untimely death from a flying lawnmower to the head.
It's the lawnmower he gets. But he doesn't stay dead. Instead, he wakes up to find that a century has passed, and he's being drafted to be the governing AI for humanity's first interstellar starship.
In the year 2117, humanity is confronted by a metastasizing alien threat that's already established itself in the asteroid belt.
It's Henry the starship's job to sail out to it, investigate it, and end it.
Or to die trying.
Box set contains:
1. I, Starship
2. Tin Can Combat
3. The Earth We Knew
4. Revolution Space
5. The Scattering Stars

The captain is terribly incompetent: he doesn't know what tools he's got, doesn't know how to use them, doesn't know how to speak to subordinates, and flakes out. He's just rubbish.
The AI engineer goes from hot to cold for no reason at all, just on the slightest little misstep. The engineer's wife is irritating in that she's just completely irrationally unreasonable about the fact that the RM exists and can see a camera, so can humans else on the ship. Every department store has cameras with people watching them. I had to stop listening to it. It was just too annoying.
Annoyingly incompetent characters
