Summary

Love comes when you least expect it in this captivating new novel in the Wescott Regency romance series from New York Times best-selling author Mary Balogh.

Lady Jessica Archer lost her own interest in the glittering excitement of romance after her cousin and dearest friend Abigail Westcott was rejected by the ton when her father was revealed to be a bigamist. Ever practical, however, once she's 25, she decides it's time to wed. Though she no longer believes she will find true love, she is still very eligible. She is, after all, the sister of Avery Archer, duke of Netherby.

Jessica considers the many qualified gentlemen who court her. But when she meets the mysterious Gabriel Thorne, who has returned to England from the New World to claim an equally mysterious inheritance, Jessica considers him completely unsuitable because he had the audacity, when he first met her, to announce his intention to wed her.

When Jessica guesses who Gabriel really is, however, and watches the lengths to which he will go in order to protect those who rely upon him, she is drawn to his cause - and to the man.

A good solid story

It is a Westcote saga, but still manages to stand on it's own. Though it is good to know the stories of the other characters. The danger of long sagas, is the books start to peter out, this hasn't happened.
Jessica has grown up and though she wishes to marry, she hasn't met the right man.
The only thing wrong, was the concept that you can still inherit after you have killed the sitting lord.

Balogh and Landor are Back!

Yes, I know. I read some of the responses to Balogh's novella, Someone to Remember, that insisted that there was too much internal dialogue and not enough plot. They cannot make the same accusation with Someone to Romance. Balogh is back to her talented roots, giving readers deep characterization with interesting conflicts pushing the story along. I prefer this investment in characterization, and Mary Balogh is so talented at showing the humanity of her characters through their integrity and their flaws. I do not care for novels that claim to be romances, but are mostly mysteries, with romantic scenes thrown in like an afterthought. I'll admit that Jessica is my least favorite character, since her appearance in Someone to Love, and her selfish tantrums concerning Anna. But I admire Balogh for staying true to Jessica's character as she is protrayed as now being an adult. Even as the heroine, readers still see signs of that selfish, spoilt girl. But Balogh always provides her characters with hope and growth. Readers will see that despite her flaws, Jessica has grown and will continue to grow through her love for Gabriel. Thank you, Mary Balogh, for giving us characters that reflect the strengths and weaknesses that we all possess. I am greedy, though. Can we now anxiously await Harry's story?

Rosalyn Landor is responsible for ruining almost all audible books for me, for she outshines nearly every other reader. I am always amazed at her talent, especially in portraying male characters. Nothing is ever affected; the shift to male voices is so subtle and so believable. Landor doesn't read; she acts, and her acting gives us Oscar worthy performances. I don't even have to read an Audible review before purchasing. If Rosalyn Landor is the reader, I know I am in for a delight!

Another enthralling listen by Mary Balogh

I have enjoyed listening to Mary Balogh's Westcott series and recommend it to anyone interested in regency romance. Rosalyn Landor does an excellent job narrating the series, in fact she is one of my favorite narrators.

Perfect!!

Mary Balogh is my favorite ! I had purchased this book as a pre-order, then saved it for when I needed a diversion and pick me up. It really fit the bill, just what I needed and impossible to put down. The characters were charming and the narration outstanding. Gabriel, who first appeared cold and distant, turned out to be, despite his self doubt,, sweetly and unassumingly romantic, swoon worthy. Who would of thought touching little fingers could be so memorable. I’m sorry it’s finished, I definitely will listen to it again, as I do all of her books. Thank you, Ms Balogh and Ms Landor for another unforgettable and beautiful love story!,

Jessica Archer’s Modern Romance

My favorite Westcott novel yet! The storyline is perfect sampling of a romance and satisfies fully more than it leaves you wanting more. The scene in Hyde Park with most of the previous male protagonists all together was the most thrilling scene I’ve read in a long time!

tedious and disappointing

not up to Balough;&s nusual standard. recapping Westcott familyhistory is no substitute for believable character development or story telling.

Far fetched story with a rushed ending.

The story starts out good but the ending is far fetched and rushed. Not the best Westcott family story.
