About this listen

Flynn Knight is the only (and frankly, impossible) child of the leader of the vampires in Los Angeles. He's also a bit of a scatterbrain, a thirty-something manchild, and a private investigator. When one of his mother's political frenemies gets killed and she asks him to investigate, he's put between a rock—her—and a hard place—the fact that not a single vampire in the city will believe the answers he finds without impressive proof to back him up.

Combine that with an eighty-thousand-dollar bill he has no idea how he's going to pay, a hit and run that has landed him a victim of the cat distribution system, and his mother trying to foist a new business partner off on him, and his life is way more complicated than he likes.

At least his new partner is nice to look at, even if he's the weirdest vampire ever, who doesn't seem to follow any of the usual vampire rules.

Also, why won't this kitten stop eating?

Smokescreen is set in the Fantastic Fluke universe, starring never before seen characters and a new setting. It begins to explore Flynn Knight’s relationships, and while it contains a complete story, it does not reach the slow burn romance plot, and the main overarching plot will continue in book two, Façade.

My only wish is that the book was longer, looking forward to when the next audio book is out!

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The narrator smashed it with his wonderful performance.

A riveting story which I simply couldn’t put down. Amazing characters, intriguing storyline and great narration - I couldn’t ask for anymore.

A great addition to the Fantastic Fluke world.

Fantastic

This entertaining page-turner has fabulous world building and writing, as well as some fascinating characters. I loved the action, the suspense, the humour, and the intriguing mysteries (yes, I meant the plural form, as there are so many things I can't wait to find out the answers to in the next book!) There are some cool twists in the plot. The story is told in Flynn's POV throughout. His mother is a powerful vampire in LA, but he knows very little about himself and his background. Who is Flynn, really? Who is Davin, the vampire business partner his mom thrust on him? Why on earth does the kitten Twist eat so much? (She's my favourite character, by the way, and very funny.) And then there's the murder mystery. So good! Read this book to find out the answers to the above questions. You won't be sorry! I'm ready for the next book in the series.

(5 stars narration) Greg Tremblay is a fantastic narrator who uses great pacing and expression to make the book even more enthralling. As a result, I enjoyed the story even more. I do have to say that it wasn't until I listened to the book out loud that I suddenly noticed the substantial amount of times the word "blinked" was used. It started to get a little distracting.
I received an audiobook copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Flynn is an anomaly and he seems to have bestowed with a cute kitten who's also an anomaly.
Davin is a potential new work partner foisted upon him by his mother.
There's snarky banter, some animosity and the beginnings of great chemistry between them.
The case they're investigating has them embroiled in vampire politics and behind the scenes machinations that could lead to something very dangerous.
I can't wait to see the resolution in the next book.
Greg Tremblay did an amazing job narrating and bringing these characters to life.

A great start
