About this listen

The struggle is only beginning....

After escaping Earth and creating a new life on Salvation-1, Tessa thought her days of fighting were over. But nothing turned out the way the survivors expected, and now humanity is facing a new threat. One that may destroy them for good.

VA-246 was supposed to be humanity’s chance to start over, but making it there was only the beginning.

An alien planet, an atmosphere not conducive to human life, and an unknown enemy. With the fate of humanity on the line and disaster waiting around every corner, Tessa and the other survivors from Earth must fight for their survival. Except the enemy isn’t quite what they expected.

Yeah I'm not sure how to pin point what my issues are but book 2 had a completely different tone and feel from book 1.
I loved book 1 and was expecting to follow the crew onto the surface and continue the relationships and sort of fish out of water stories of the human race survival trying to rebuild a home for the human race but what I got was still the crew going to the surface and being surprised by another race trying to colonize the same planet, racism, grudges, weird alien mind bonding that lasted the majority of the book, let love story taking a backseat and general politics. The pacing was sluggish and I literally had to speed up the audiobook because the story just seemed to stall out for me. It honestly felt like the author had so many ideas and feelings about the story that they all just spilled onto the page without editing or beta readers.

Not what I was expecting from book 2

Having listened to book1 I had to listen to this book and find out what happened to everyone. Good story, not too many twists and turns and ending is concluded well, no cliffhanger, so if you don't fancy book 3 you can leave the story there.

Good story

Salvation-1: Survival immediately pulls you into a tense, post-apocalyptic setting where every decision could mean life or death. Kate L. Mary does an excellent job balancing action with character development—there’s a real sense of vulnerability and strength in the way the survivors struggle to adapt. The pacing is steady, and while the plot feels familiar at times within the survival genre, Mary adds enough fresh twists and emotional depth to keep it engaging.

Mallory Fuccella’s narration is a real highlight. She brings personality to each character and keeps the tension alive with her delivery. Her voice work makes the audiobook immersive, helping you feel the stakes of every dangerous encounter.

If you enjoy survival stories with a blend of sci-fi and human resilience—think The 100 meets The Walking Dead—this audiobook is worth the listen. It sets the stage for what looks like a thrilling series to come.

fantastic syfy survival series
