Summary

THE ISLES OF SCILLY MYSTERIES #2

The island of Tresco holds a dark secret someone will kill to protect.

Ben Kitto has become Deputy Commander in the Isles of Scilly Police. As the islands’ lazy summer takes hold, he finds himself missing the excitement of the murder squad in London. But when the body of professional diver Jude Trellon is discovered, anchored to the rocks of a nearby cave, his investigative skills are once again needed.

At first it appears that the young woman’s death was a tragic accident, but when evidence suggests otherwise, the islanders close ranks. With even those closest to the victim refusing to talk, it seems that plenty of islanders had reason to harm her. As the community remains guarded, Ben Kitto discovers that terrible secrets lie beneath the waters around Tresco, and the killer may soon strike again.

Everyone is a suspect.

Nobody is safe.

Nice

This story was like an 8pm Sunday evening tv program- easy and familiar. Fans of edgy dark thrillers should avoid.
The narrator was very good though, no grating mispronunciation or accent

Atmospheric

Really feel I know the Islands after this - and a good step by step crime caper as well.

"You were born here and people trust you."

The next major crime and murder case for D.I.Ben Kitto on the usually almost crime free Isles of Scilly. This time the focus is more focused on Tresco and the treacherous waters surrounding the Isles, home of many maritime wrecks. The plot is somewhat fanciful, the detecting rather sparse even if Kittto with his dog and single police assistant are constantly busy but I read and enjoy it for the setting alone.
Narration is again by Stephen Perring

Storyline

An absolutely fantastic piece of work. Great storyline. A book not to be missed. The excellent narration brought out the best of the story too. NB The noun is calm - not calmness!

descriptive book

DI Ben Kito has become the Scilly Islands Deputy Chief of Police. A body is found anchored to the rocks of a nearby cave. The island of Tresco, and the deep and murky waters that surround it, hold a dark secret.

The story swept me along and the use of emotive and descriptive language - especially describing the beautiful land and seascapes - made me believe I was there amongst the Islanders, witnessing and feeling the same as they were.

A fast paced thriller which held the perpetrators identity close to its chest right up until the last few chapters.

This was my first book from Kate Rhodes and I look forward to following on with the next installment.

4 stars from me.

Listened to on Audible.
