This is very much the Empire Strikes Back of the Marc Dane series. Exciting and well paced, but quite bleak. I will now have to read the next one immediately to find out what happens. Which is surely a good recommendation! I would add that you probably need to have read the preceding books to fully appreciate this

Loved it. A great story and terrific finish. Lots of scrapes for the heroes as we've come to expect. Sad to reach the end.
