About this listen

Ash Aldrich forged a legend with his soul hammer, Roq. Now, the real fight begins.

A newly-minted Hammerlord, Ash, finally has a home of his own and a party he’d fight and die for. The next chapter in his life is about to start, but along with that come many responsibilities, like…where do they put the monster trophies? And who gets what room? Sometimes it is good to have simple problems as every new dawn somehow piles on more and more dangers on his plate.

House Domitius is still coming for the smithy and for Ash’s parents. They will stop at nothing, when a familiar face returns with reinforcement, even bending the guild and bank to their whim, or using deadly force.

The Hive Mind unleashes newly evolved horrors at Sentinel Station, and every new wave is more dangerous than the last. Holding the monsters back only serves to prolong the inevitable: Dawnwatch’s fall, but there’s not much they can do with an even greater threat looming Riftside. Something is picking off adventuring teams one by one, and leaving no witnesses. Peace has become a luxury no one in Dawnwatch can afford.

But the greatest challenge may even come from within, as Roq demands his own breakthrough, and the party weighs on keeping him secret from even Nabeeh and their closest allies.

Fans of Riftside 1 will devour this explosive sequel. If you crave relentless progression, strategic party combat, epic loot, and a crafting system with real stakes, your next addiction is here.

The Riftside war is escalating. Don't get left behind!

Cassius Lange and Henrik Saetre return with Riftside 2: A LitRPG Fantasy Adventure, a sequel that builds on the momentum of the first book while expanding the world of Noros in exciting ways. Ash Aldrich, now a Hammerlord, has carved out a place for himself on the frontier. With his soul hammer Roq at his side, he faces not only the evolving monster hordes but also the political machinations of noble houses and guilds.

What makes this installment shine is its balance between high-stakes battles and the slice-of-life humor of adventurers trying to manage their newfound responsibilities. From deciding who gets which room in their stronghold to pampering a sentient, bloodthirsty hammer, the novel blends tension with levity in a way that keeps readers hooked.

The pacing is brisk, with monster incursions, dungeon delves, and guild intrigue all woven together seamlessly. Lange and Saetre’s writing continues to deliver the hallmarks of great LitRPG: clear progression systems, inventive combat, and a protagonist whose growth feels earned. Ash’s journey from blacksmith to legend is compelling, and Roq’s sardonic commentary adds a layer of personality that makes the narrative unforgettable.

While the text itself is strong, the Soundbooth Theater crew’s voice work transforms Riftside 2 into something extraordinary. Their performance captures the grit of battle, the humor of Roq’s banter, and the emotional weight of Ash’s struggles. Each character is given distinct vocal nuance, making the audiobook feel like a fully immersive dramatization rather than a simple reading. The crew’s ability to shift between tones epic, comedic, heartfelt ensures that listeners are pulled deeper into Noros with every chapter.

For fans of audio storytelling, this production is a masterclass in how voice acting can elevate a novel. The Soundbooth Theater team doesn’t just narrate; they inhabit the world, giving life to monsters, allies, and Ash’s own conflicted inner voice.

At under 500 pages (25 hours of audio), Riftside 2 manages to deliver both epic fantasy adventure and character-driven humor, making it a standout in the LitRPG genre. Whether you’re reading or listening, this sequel proves that Lange and Saetre know how to craft a world worth returning to. And with Soundbooth Theater’s stellar performance, the audiobook is arguably the definitive way to experience Ash Aldrich’s journey. And yes, Platypus Roq, that is the word indeed.

Verdict: A must-read (and must-listen) for LitRPG fans equal parts thrilling, funny, and immersive.
