About this listen

Fear is one of the strongest human emotions, and it is one that often baffles Christians.

“The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge.” (Proverbs 1:7)

Fear is one of the strongest human emotions — and one that often baffles Christians. In the Bible the picture can seem equally confusing: Is fear a good thing or a bad thing? And what does it mean to “fear the Lord”?

In this audiobook, Michael Reeves clears the clouds of confusion and shows that the fear of the Lord is not a negative thing at all, but an intensely delighted wondering at God, our creator and redeemer.

So much to take in, but all good. It's helped expand my understanding of delighting in the fear of God.

Rejoice and tremble is excellent

There is a lot to take in and will definitely be worth a second listen but in just the first listen Reeves has both challenged and encouraged me to examine what my fears show me about where my heart lies and to embrace the richness that can be found in a true understanding of the fear of the Lord.

A wonderful listen

Having read the abridged version earlier this year, ‘What Does it Mean to Fear the Lord?’ I enjoyed going into more depth with the full book.

This is the most beautiful depiction of God as the Holy One to be feared that I have personally read. The language of ‘filial fear/love’ towards God as Father is the most helpful I’ve heard on the subject of fearing God. Reeves shows how through faith in Jesus Christ, the Son of God, we can learn both bold approach towards God and what He calls ‘a right fear’ towards God.

Would recommend this title to anyone looking to learn more about how to relate with God, especially if you struggle specifically with the aspects of fear, reverence, and the child-father dynamic of our relationship with God.

Shows that 'the fear of God' is beautiful
