Real Men Snarl: Ally doesn't want to have anything to do with werewolves. Kade Blackwood is a werewolf who wants to do everything to Ally.

Real Men Growl: Gavin Blackwood expected gratitude, but what he got was a gorgeous she-wolf who defied him at every turn.

From start to finish I could hardly stop listening, so we'll done felt like I was there when I closed my eyes

High school students would have made a far better stab at novels with these names than have the authors. The novellas are so trite and repetitive that I fell asleep part way through the 3rd one and didn't bother trying to finish it when I woke up. That only happens in around 1% of all the books I start (and I listen for at lease 15 hours a day). I was glad it was a freebie, won't be purchasing it, will avoid other work read by Ms Taylor and won't be looking for anything else from Ms Kyle or Ms Maddix.

The plots are from a set of standard templates. Everyone good is gorgeous, bodies are perfect; smells are tantalising and physical intimacy happens so soon we've hardly got to know them. Villains are big ugly thugs or mean-looking, thin rats, either of which smells awful.

There are curves; sass; muscles; bruised lips; tattoos; nubs of nerve endings; enormous appendages; torn scraps of underwear; tented boxers; pebbled nipples - you get the picture but what you're imagining is probably far more exciting than what you'll hear in these sorry excuses for erotic shifter romance. That's not helped by the narration - Ms Taylor sounds as though she's reading to a junior school class. Her delivery is passionless and lacks emphasis where it could have been used effectively to try and enhance the tales.

If you want to hear shifter worlds done so well that you'll get completely immersed in them, go to Sophie Ash who creates truly alternative worlds which are full of interesting and intelligent characters (even the villains have brains). Her novels are, imo, unbeatable and she's generous with things like free bonus scenes (extra chapters which aren't strictly necessary but interesting nonetheless) or full novellas (most authors would make their audience pay for these).

If you want a slightly but still believably alternative world in which huge, alpha men fall in love with strong and intelligent women, go to Elin Peer who can't be beaten for work which is so engaging you'll become addicted from the first one you try. If you're looking for heat, steam and red hot spice, go to S J Tilly or Beth Evans. Both write wonderful dark mafia romances with either one or multiple MMCs. Intimacy is often rather graphically described and there's absolutely nothing bland about them.

This box set left me bored by the end of Real Men Howl; yawning by the end of Real Men Snarl and asleep before the end of Real Men Growl. Not a hint of breathlessness, a spreading blush, a tingle in my core nor a hint of dampness anywhere delicate and intimate. Steam-free, vanilla (if that), unimaginative and a complete disappointment!

Boring, trite, predictable - DNF - don't waste a credit.
