It seemed like a good idea at the time: Get paid to license a copy of your mind for use in one of the numerous machines that run society. What could go wrong? Turns out, a lot. Jason wakes up in the middle of the radioactive wasteland that was created 50 years ago when aliens destroyed half the Earth. He has no idea why he's here, or what the hell he's supposed to do. Alex is dead. Dead and apparently with a one-way ticket to a place that only the worst of the worst go. All for a simple choice he made about a product his company owned. Damned for all time. Luckily for him, he’s about to be given a chance. Another choice to make. He can instead return to the land of the living, though his soul would belong to another. What the actual fuck...
- By "sharky18" on 19-02-19
Summary
Internationally best-selling science-fiction author T. R. Harris introduces his exciting new military/space opera series about the future of space warfare...and the destiny of mankind.
Every kid wanted to be a REV, but very few ever would.
Zac Murphy was the most badass REV warrior in the Corps. He'd gone on more Runs and killed more aliens than any single human alive. He'd been one of the early volunteers for the NT-4 program, which used a powerful performance-enhancing drug to turn ordinary Marines into super killing machines. Affectionately called REV, the drug wasn't for everyone. Few made it through the screening process, and fewer still into the Fleet.
Zac was the most senior REV alive, a miracle of science and a legend in the Corps. His job was to be the battering ram for the Marines, the first in while revved up on NT-4.
During a Run, he was a mindless killing machine, dangerous to both foe and friend alike. That's why his fellow Marines gave him a wide berth until he could be put down with the Twilight drug. At that point, he was somewhat manageable.
But something was happening to Zac. Long after most other REVs were dead, burned out or "retired", Zac was growing stronger, more powerful.
He was also doing what no REV had ever done before during a Run. He was beginning to think.

a fun summer read
Action filled and inventive . Definitely a boy book, but the characters are developing in a way that I enjoy, and the plot twists were unexpected.
The narrator Keith Sellon-Wright has the right tone - straight forward, exciting and not overly dramatic, with good accents for the various characters.
I'm looking forward to the next in the series and getting to know our Revs, their friends and enemies better.

Not at all a good book. Terrible in fact
Simplistic, unexciting writing, uncomplicated plot and read by someone who sounds like he would be right at home reading an excel spreadsheet, out loud, to geriatrics.
