Summary

He seethes with raw power the first time I see him - pure menace and rippling muscles in shackles. He's dangerous. He's wild. He's the most beautiful thing I've ever seen.

So, I hide behind my prim glasses and my book like I always do, because I have secrets, too. Then, he shows up in the prison writing class I have to teach, and he blows me away with his honesty. He tells me secrets in his stories, and it's getting harder to hide mine. I shiver when he gets too close, with only the cuffs and the bars and the guards holding him back. At night, I can't stop thinking about him in his cell.

But that's the thing about an animal in a cage - you never know when he'll bite. He might use you to escape. He might even pull you into a forest and hold a hand over your mouth so you can't call for the cops. He might make you come so hard you can't think.

And you might crave him more than your next breath...

Praise for the book:

"Sexy, dark, and thrilling. I loved every second of it!" (The New York Times best-selling author Katie Reus)

"Dark, sexy, and intense, Prisoner is an emotional ride that does not let go until the end. I loved it!" (USA Today best-selling author Kristen Callihan)

Dark romantic thriller

I don't know where to start, I loved this immediately from the prison setting and the build up of their scintillating chemistry i was completely drawn in. It was dark, sexy thrilling and I cannot wait to read hostage.

Love this!

Wow this was even better than the first one I read, which is the second of this series [book:Hostage|37460111]. I'm glad I read this one in the reverse order, I wouldn't be able to warm up to Stone so quickly. Lol

I love the way the relationship progressed. There was insta-lust and I didn't like Abigail very much, she was too blunt and boring for Grayson who was a great character. She was too hot-and-cold towards him. The policy thought she was an accomplish and honestly? Me, as a reader, saw her as one. She was almost TSTL, but she got a little fight in her towards the end.

The sex scenes were so-so. Their feelings and thinking were more described than the action itself. And there is the use of purple prose that I didn't like. Things like "I exploded inside her with my heat". "Warmth ran through my core".

Jacob Morgan is AMAZING! Geez I love his voice, his narration. He is such a good voice actor. I don't like Lauren's Sweet narration, unfortunately. Her voice is a little bit to nasal and whiny for me, and the way she begin the sentence low, it goes high int he middle, and low again in the end doesn't help.

Beware that this is very dark

First let me just state- there’s actual rape in this story- the hero rapes the heroine since there was no consent (She was drugged). I really enjoyed the story and their push and pull before that happened and then I was shocked at how that happened. This story is dark, but it draws you in and I still continued reading even after that part because I wanted to see what happens and because this is not real. I guess I can suspend disbelief that the lack of consent was ok because the two characters have such an attraction to each other.

But be forewarned, if you have an issue with lack of consent and can’t suspend disbelief, this will be a problem for you.

Grayson is innocent of the crime he’s being jailed for. He gets the opportunity to get a message out to his family through Abby’s writing class. She’s an unwitting victim. During the breakout, she gets caught up and becomes his prisoner. But he’s also a prisoner of his past and he did, in fact, have a horrible past. They both have to get past this horror in order to be together. Abby is young-only about 19 and still in college so it feels like this could be a nod to Stockholm syndrome.

The narrators are amazing- I love listening to Jacob Morgan and the subtle emotions he infuses into his voice really elevate the story. Lauren Sweet was also good- she has a young voice that fits Abby perfectly. She played the multiple characters well.

Loved it!

Wow, this book was amazing! I loved every minute of it. It kept me on the edge of my seat from the beginning until the very end. I had listened to Hostage first, which is book 2 of the series, and absolutely loved it so I couldn't wait to listen to this one too. It is emotional, raw and dark but deep down there is also a beautiful love story between two broken characters. I really, really hope more books get added to this series because it is one of my all time favorites. Jacob Morgan and Lauren Sweet did a wonderful job bringing this story to life. They brought out all the emotions of each character perfectly.

Good story, shame about LS

It was a good story with a bit of action and I really liked it. Jacob Morgan was as always great and is able to bring any character to life. Unfortunately the downfall of the book is the narration by Lauren Sweet. She sounded very false, Lauren please listen back to yourself, I’m sure you can do better.

Wow this was such a great book I loved the story of Abby who is teaching in a prison to complete the stories of a number of prisoners this is when Grayson sees her and decides he can use her to break out. The rest of the story is magic how someone you are scared of becomes your everything and the person keeping you alive in all ways. I enjoyed the flow of the story it kept me gripped all the way through.

Jacob Morgan as Grayson was awesome he has such a smooth voice and it fitted so well for me..Lauren Sweet was perfect as Abigail her voice is so sweet but not sickly she brought the story to life.

I can't wait to listen to book 2 Hostage I want to know more about Stone I found him intriguing in Prisoner and glad he has a book.

Well worth a listen you will not be disappointed.xx

Annika Martin and Skye Warren = awesomely awesome

Wow, wow, wow. I have no words. This story is definitely different but I knew going in it would be good. Because Skye Warren is a great story teller. But good does not cut it. This story was so good. I loved the dialogue. I grew to really root for the characters. The narration was done really well. The story was just unexpected in such a great way.

Another Winner for Skye Warren!!!

Well, another winner for Skye Warren and first time acknowledgement of Annika Martin. The two together blew it up with "Prisoner" Book, 1.

I didn't expect anything less from Skye Warren and with her partnering up with Annika Martin made it a stronger winning team.

There were two prisoners and both main characters were in their own Hell. That's why they understood and connected so well. When it comes to the narrators; Jacob Morgan and Lauren Sweet, both being new to me, I think they gave "A Stellar Performance" and I definitely would like to listen to them in other books. I was just taken by what they were able to give with their storytelling, working well together.

I loved this novel and I cannot wait to listen to book 2, "Hostage." I know if book 1 blew up, Skye and Annika have even more surprises in stored for their listeners.

I recommend book 1 and I'm sure book 2 will be as rewarding! 5-🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

WELL DONE LADIES 👏.. AN UNCONVENTIONAL LOVE STORY

Wow.. I was truly captivated as this gritty romance took me on a suspenseful rollercoaster, it swept me up in an unpredictable tale of a hardened prisoner and his bookish captive, it chilled me to the bone with not one.. but two damaged soul’s backstories and it blew me away with a beautiful romance that was initially built on fear. It was different, it had hold-your-breath action and edgy drama, it had heat and heart, it had an infamous anti-hero and a strong heroine and it had a tight brotherhood of alpha men who’d all gone through the same childhood abuse and trauma in the basement when they were just young boys.

Worth a credit? Grayson and Abby’s dual PoV love story is a bitter-sweet slow-burn from a firestorm beginning and their chemistry and dynamics were intense. It’s an emotionally gripping dark fantasies tale.. and I loved it. It’s got depth, dubious (but redeemable) conduct, good character growth and it’s a great introduction to these emotionally tortured, but loyal, very damaged brothers who’ve sworn allegiance to each other.. and sworn revenge. And yes, IMO, it’s definitely creditworthy. Great 5 star narration by Jacob Morgan whose chilling, heartwarming and sexy vibes brought Grayson’s initially intimidating ‘capture, kill, conquer, control, consume’ conflicted feelings.. and his new possessive awakened love, to life.. and Lauren Sweet’s narration was good too.

Dark and dangerous

Gritty but very good.
When sweet and (seemingly) innocent Abby is required to teach a writing class at Kingman Correctional Facility she wants nothing to do with the prisoners or this writing assignment. Being inside the dark prison walls just makes her more aware of the darkness she keeps buried deep inside. She just needs to keep her head and not attract any unwanted attention. But that's not going to be possible once Greyson sets his sights on her.

I really enjoyed this story

It is such a different style and story than I am used to hearing. I really liked the idea of her being a person who inputs herself into a prison. The narration was gret as well and I definitely will be moving on to the rest of the books in this series!!!

Jacob Morgan’s voice ❤️

Jacob Morgan could have done the entire narration. Lauren Sweet was irritating. I would actually cringe every time I heard her voice. She’s nasally and sing songie if that makes sense. I don’t know if I can listen to another book when she is involved

Female Narrator is a NO for me

This audiobook had the potential to be great, but the female narrator made me cringe throughout the entire book. Her narration is SO OVERDRAMATIZED and at times sounds like she’s singing in a Broadway show and I’m like UGH STOP IT!!! She did a great male voice though, but as Abby, I gagged. Ease up on the drama and breathiness sheesh! Jacob Morgan was PERFECTION as always. The story was just okay.

Dark, intense and good

This book is definitely not for the faint of heart or squeamish. It’s dark, intense, gritty, nail biting, edge of your seat good. Great collaboration with these two authors. Jacob & Lauren did a phenomenal job narrating.

Authors PLEASE dont use Lauren Sweet!

If the preview would have been Lauren Sweet I would have passed on this book. Unfortunately/Fortunately the preview is of Jacob Morgan and he is AMAZING!!! I wish he had read the entire book. Hes perfect. Not sure why everyone is hung up on sebastian york, Jacob Morgan is king! The book was very engaging, though dark. This lets you know what the dark themes are without having to spell out ever word. I like that. Moving on to the next book in the series now!

I read the first book first. I did it backwards. However that did not seem to make a difference. I am so in love with Prisoner and Hostage. If you like dark romances then you better get these two and enjoy the journey. It is such a journey that there is no way you won't be on the edge of your seat or holding your breath through parts of this book. Now that I have listened I know that I will be going back and actually reading the book for myself too.

4 Broken Stars

I was in the mood for some dark romance...this ended up fitting the bill even though it wasn't quite as dark as I thought it was going to be. I found the backstory of the Hero to be rather compelling...and the narration by both Jacob Morgan & Lauren Sweet was phenomenal.

While I liked the story on this one, the feels were a little lacking for me. Since I listen/read romance mainly for the feels...because let's face it, most romances are rather predictable as far as the ending goes...the feels really make the story when it's all said and done. I was worried this would be one of those stories with more sex scenes than an actual story...but it actually had a perfect balance of each. Overall, I liked it and I think I will definitely give the second book (HOSTAGE) in the series a listen.

Loved even better than its sequel

while there are two standalone tied in by their characters and this was the 1st I listned to number 2, 1st both where great books but this predecessor had a twist to the darkness that had me stalling for a moment as it did not sugar coat the situation and it took and called out its heroine for what most would label her as version of belle with her beast.

My take on it was both had devils they conquered and found a way to over come it all and find not only what was missing but a way to conquer over them and be humans who could LOVE.
