About this listen

The dreadful secret that Torak carries with him at the close of Soul Eater is revealed, and he is cast out from the clans.

It's his 14th summer. He's alone, cut off even from Wolf and Renn. Hunted and on the run, he takes refuge in unknown territory: the haunted reedbeds of Lake Axehead, where he is menaced by the Hidden People.

Other threats lurk nearby, and his battle with the Soul-Eaters is far from over.

As he fights for his life, Torak uncovers a deception too awful to contemplate, one that shakes him to the core and shatters his world.

This is book 4 in the series and my personal favourite. In this book, Torak is cast out from the clans and cut off from his friends, and meanwhile his enemies are closing in. This book sees Torak at his most vulnerable and is an extremely powerful and moving story. It also reintroduces Bail, a character who first appeared in Spirit Walker. Together, he and Ren must save Torak from his enemies and more importantly from himself.

Really enjoyed this book, had read it as a child but the narration by Ian McKellen was fantastic, he does the voices incredibly well and brings the book to life. The plot is good, it's just one of those books you can listen to anywhere, anytime and still enjoy it. Really recommend it.

Great Book

Unlike the last book, Soul Eater which I didn’t really like, this one had a very rich story and imaginable atmosphere, unpredictable plot and surprises and I enjoyed it very much. McKellen’s performance is really outstanding which adds more character to the story.

Unpredictable and compelling

Great story - gritty and tense throughout, with brilliant details from stone-age setting. McKellen's voice is mesmerising. I will work my way through the whole set in time. Fully recommended!

gripping

4.5/5

A twist in Torak's story and some wonderful character development from several of our main characters. Back stories are fleshed out more too and we get some wholesome lupine moments too. Excited to move on to the next book.

Some really great character development
