About this listen

A man is dead.

The killer is a woman.

But what secrets lie beneath the surface - so dark that a man has to die?

Women are rarely cold-blooded killers. But when famous philanthropist Hugo Fletcher is found dead, there is no doubt in anybody's mind that the killer is a woman. And it is clear from the precision of the planning that this was no crime of passion. It was an execution.

The victim was revered the world over for his charitable work with trafficked Eastern European prostitutes, and as at least one of these girls is missing, Detective Chief Inspector Tom Douglas is certain that there has to be a connection.

But nothing is as it appears on the surface. A web of complex relationships is gradually revealed and it seems that everybody has something to hide. As each horrific secret is exposed, Tom Douglas begins to realise that this is much more than a simple murder case. And he has a terrible dilemma to face - whether to punish the guilty, or protect the innocent.

Good story but ended up buying the paperbook as couldn't listen to the narrator's voice any more.

I really enjoyed this book. My only regret is I haven’t read the Tom Douglas books in order.
A good story and well narrated.
Would recommend

It took me a long time to get into this book and to get over the dreadful narration. It took me even longer to work out who the narrator was referring to as she appeared unable to pronounce the name ‘Tom’. Tom was a main character but the narrator only occasionally said Tom - more often she called him ‘Om’, ‘Dom’ or ‘Hom’. This was incredibly annoying and frustrating. The actual story was quite good, albeit rather long-winded. I’m glad I persevered until the end but equally glad this book was included and didn’t cost me a credit.

Dreadful narration

Too much soul searching, guilt, sentimentality. Hugo the anti- hero is not v believable, but story had me fully engaged. The hero Tom thinks like women, but the female characters are believable. While I enjoyed story I think it will appeal more to women, then what do I know

Too much soul searching for me
