Not your best
I think it’s time for the author to take stock, have some time out and really think about where they are going with this series and these characters. In the early books, the storylines were strong, well constructed, with believable characters. The main characters were beginning to sound and feel interesting as we got to understand about their lives through each book. Then suddenly (and who knows why), the number of books increased and the quality of each story began to disintegrate. This last book was the worst, weak storyline, weak main characters which was especially disappointing as I had high hopes for Tom and Becky and was generally a non starter. I’m crushed to have to write such a poor review, but maybe, if enough fans of Rachel Abbott reflect similar thoughts, it will encourage the author to take stock and return to their true motivation for writing thrillers (which hopefully wasn’t ever financially driven) Sorry!

Kidnapping with quite a few twists
I don't usually like police investigations, but this is a really good one. The writing is superb, I was hooked all the way the through, there really were no flat bits. It's a story about the kidnapping of Millie, a 7 yo girl and is told mainly from from the perspective of her mother Jo, the story heroine. It's no ordinary kidnapping though, there are no ransom demands so what is going on? Jo doesn't know who she can trust, including her husband Ash. I've loved Rachel Abbott's other books, but this was my first in the DCI Tom Douglas series. It didn't seem to matter that I hadn't listened to earlier books in the series. The story didn't focus much on Tom Douglas until the last half hour, after the main climax, then we seemed to get a soap opera style update on his family life, mainly for the benefit of his earlier followers I think! Rachel Abbott is becoming one of my favourite authors. Great reading by Lisa Coleman too.

Big let down
Very frustrating and brimming with filler when the climax comes it is such a let down also I feel the author needs to consider these salient points: 1)You can't put a man on a birth certificate without him being present. 2) You cannot force a teenager to leave the country. There is a lot more I could say but I will leave it there, its draggy and terrible on all fronts, full of annoying people.

Brilliant! Another winner by Rachel Abbott.
I’ve been anxiously waiting for “Right Behind You” with DCI Tom Douglas, a favorite of mine. Author Rachel Abbott has, as always, created another suspenseful thriller. Lisa Coleman’s rich and perfect tones are addicting. Twisty turns made this one hard to take a break and rates at the top of my vast Audible library. Surprises throughout. An ending I never saw coming. Kudos to both Abbott and Coleman, for another intriguing adventure. Highly recommended. I can’t stress it enough. Well worth a treasured credit. Epic I say, EPIC! ✍🏻👏🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟👏✍🏻

Good addition to the series
This is the latest story in the DCI Tom Douglas series and tells the story of police knocking on Jo Palmer’s door and arresting her pediatric surgeon husband Ash. Shortly thereafter Child Protective Services show up and insist on taking Jo’s but not Ash’s biological child with them. Neither the arresting officers nor CPS are who they say they are and thus evolves the attempts by the Police and Jo to find both her husband and child. I found it hard to believe that Jo would not insist on accompanying her child but appreciated her later efforts and determination to get her daughter back. I also liked the realistic character of Ash who commits adultery and the ending which is realistic rather than an all-round happy ending. 4 stars. Lisa Coleman was excellent with the delivery of the story

Jo is relatable from the start!
This was quite the lively story! I enjoy Tom and Becky so very much as characters. I have been reading or listening to Rachel Abbott for years now and I always enjoy her books. She packs in some action with a twisted and thrilling situation with personal lives and how these characters progress over time. The narrator Lisa Coleman has a pleasant voice. I’m not sure if she adds to the thrilling feel of the story or if the story is that thrilling, either way. I liked it!

Boring
This was a boring book and it seemed quite far Fetched. The narrator was very irritating, she had a nasal thing going on and it made it hard to get into the book for that reason. For a while I thought it was getting better, but that didn’t last long. There were side stories going on and that made it confusing, and they were also boring and had nothing to do with the plot. I would have returned it, but couldn’t figure out how.
