Summary

Kelsey Adams is alone, and has been since childhood. Running away is all she knows and necessary to preserve her deepest, darkest secret. She cannot afford for anyone to get close, or know about the monster within. But when she lands a lucrative job as an administrative assistant to Kyle Westin, CEO of the Westin Foundation, her life changes and everything's at stake. Can she conceal her growing feelings and her true self from this enigmatic, strong willed man, or will her world fall apart?

Kyle Westin, an alpha male who always gets what he wants, has watched and waited for the little she-wolf he knows is his perfect mate to show any signs of recognition. For two years he endures her unnecessary formality and daily rejections with a patience he did not know he possessed. But even Kyle has his limits.... Can he make Kelsey notice him as someone other than her boss and break down the walls she built around her heart? Or will Kelsey do what she has always done - run?

Contains mature themes.

Great story!

I really liked that this story was well developed without having too much angst/insecurity on the heroine’s part as well as not getting too raunchy. There are plenty of stories out there that are just sex oriented.
I look forward to seeing what is next from this author.

Finding the one

This was a great shifter story, a lot of mystery and unanswered questions kept you guessing until the end. I enjoyed it very much, well worth the credit.

Creative but too inconsistent

Sorry, but an Alpha wouldn’t wait 2 yrs for his mate, let alone a True Mate.
Kyle would not have let Vanessa touch him on the arm, touch his hand, and definitely NOT kiss him, unless he was a d*ckhead weasel who liked to torment his girlfriend into jealousy. It’s definitely not something an honorable man would do with a mate. Disconnect...Disconnect...Disconnect...

I was fairly annoyed with the naïveté of the politics and strategy of Trettel’s storytelling. Several times I had to grit my teeth when she wrote both Kyle and Kelsey as Too Stupid To Live.
ALL fiction involves creating characters and worlds that have to fit and act consistently within the guidelines set up by the author, and there were Too Many Disconnects in this story.
I’m seriously tempted to return this book, but I would like to see Ms Trettel encouraged in her creativity, but find a good writing group or editor to help her future efforts.
Robins and Hempel did a creditable job with narration. Robins has a very “perky” voice that works well for a 16-24 yr old YA-UpperYA.

Loved it! Can’t wait for book two!!!

Only thing I didn’t like that I was about to figure out the female lead right away.
Everything else I loved. The first four hours of the book I couldn’t stop listening even though I was three hour past my bed time giggle!
I like the two voices, very easy to listen to. The book made me cry both with joy and sadness. Had some laughs! But I love that the female lead was so strong! Both as a person and the power she possess! If you’re on the line on weather or not to get this book I hope this review helps! I’ve been really bored with the books I’ve picked lately but I most definitely wasn’t with this one!!!!

Meh

The story is a bit droll and insipid. It has some ok world building, but often times it feels the knowledge of that world is only learned before the author wants to introduce another aspect of the story, instead something the character experience and then tries to figure out. Often times this story has plots introduce matter of factly and there is little passion in the story. I did not feel as if I was falling in love as the characters were or the feel the need that pulled these two love interests together. Even the love making is written as if by a person who has no experience with sex and just a basic knowledge of what is suppose to happen. I do not believe that a book needs to have smut to feel passion, but this left the reader wanting. Even the fight scenes had not passion. There was not enough emotion to them, and it really did not make sense why there was an open season to challenge if they were true mates. There also seemed to be some sexist antics at play with the rule that alpha females needed to be killed because they had so much power and that they were too emotional to control it. Not my favorite book at all. I will say I was able to read it to the end. It did have promise, but I feel the writer did not have anyone pushing them to dig deeper in order to write a story that catches a person's whole being.
