Summary

Their marriage lasted only slightly longer than the honeymoon - to no one's surprise, not even Bryony Asquith's. A man as talented, handsome, and sought after by society as Leo Marsden couldn't possibly want to spend his entire life with a woman who rebelled against propriety by becoming a doctor. Why, then, three years after their annulment and half a world away, does he track her down at her clinic in the remotest corner of India?

Leo has no reason to think Bryony could ever forgive him for the way he treated her, but he won't rest until he's delivered an urgent message from her sister - and fulfilled his duty by escorting her safely back to England. But as they risk their lives for each other on the journey home, will the biggest danger be the treacherous war around them - or their rekindling passion?

Narrator has speech problems.

I couldn't go beyond the first chapter as the narrator cannot say the F sound and sometimes the soft TH sound.

Good story

I like all the Sherry Thomas books I've read. I'm not a fan of this particular narrator.

Awful narration

I enjoy Sherry Thomas’ stories and was excited to listen to another about the London society people I have come to love. However the narrator’s voice and characterizations were so awful I couldn’t get past the first chapter.

Don't bother

If I could just get past the narrator, I might give this book a chance.

Not a light read/listen.

Story is rather dark and the characters face only adversity.
Turns out ok. Thankfully.
Narration is devoid of the correct emotion.

Bittersweet.

A heart rending love story, amazing adventure, and toe curling love scenes. I am embarrassed to say I shed a tear or two.

Definitely not a hit!

I usually love Sherry Thomas' works but this one just didn't do it for me. It was one of those books where I kept looking at the time measurement to see how much longer it would take to get to the end of this! The first part is kind of a travelog of India - confusing and not very interesting, and the heroine is totally unappealing. Add to that, the narrator is definitely NOT one of my favorites. So all in all, this was a pretty hard book to like. I would say, take a pass on this one.

Great Performance but Terrible Romance

What disappointed you about Not Quite a Husband?

The heroine was very intelligent yet so immature, arrogant and childish that it ruin the story. She actually came off as mean and selfish a great deal of the time. Also, the author seem to put more effort into displaying her knowledge of the time and geography that the romance was secondary at best. I loved the hero but wished he had more backbone.

What was most disappointing about Sherry Thomas’s story?

The selfish heroine

Which character – as performed by Anne Flosnik – was your favorite?

Leo

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Not Quite a Husband?

So many........

Any additional comments?

I worked hard at finishing the story because the narrator was excellent. My impatience with the heroine reached its limit though.
