Summary

Dying isn't what it used to be.

Wes Cooper was dead. Then he wasn't-though he's not exactly alive, either. As an immortal not-ghost, he can transition between this world and the otherplane, which makes him the perfect thief for hire. For 70 years he's made a "living" returning items to their rightful owners, seeing his fair share of the bizarre in the process. But he's never witnessed murder. Until now.

His latest mission brings him more than he bargained for: a very-dead actor who is definitely going to stay that way. It's just Wes's luck that his ex-boyfriend, Detective Hudson Rojas, is assigned to the case. Hudson broke Wes's heart years ago - and could again, given he's rocking a hot silver-fox look that shouldn't be legal.

As they work together to track down the murderer before anyone else gets hurt, it becomes clear Wes and Hudson have unfinished business. And when a secret Hudson's been keeping threatens more than just their happiness, it might mean the end of their not-life together - permanently.

Contains mature themes.

What a gem!

New author for me...not sure how I found this book, but thank you to all the reviewers (you do a better job than me!) which really sold this. I took a punt, as I needed a book to listen to whilst travelling and because you can’t go wrong with narrator Greg Boudreaux, and bought this book. Wow! I absolutely loved the story which was well woven and gripping and the main characters, well, you’d really want them in your corner! Obviously this is just the beginning for this newly forged ‘family’ and I can’t wait for their next investigative adventure. In the mean time, I’m on the hunt for more from Jenn Burke!

WOW, A TRULY FANTASTIC SERIES!

Excellent. So good. Lots of action, magic and humor throughout. One of the best in this genre. The romance between the two main characters, Wes. Cooper and Hudson Rojas is very good. There some sex scenes but not so much to spoil the whole story and personally I like that very much. After reading some gay books written by other writers which have so much sex scenes appearing In practically every alternate chapters that ends up giving me the impression that all gay books deals mainly with sex. Bravo to Jenn Burke for writing a perfectly interesting series! I love the voice actor, Greg Boudraeux who brings to the story to life with his awesome performance. I hope there will be more books in this series.

So good

I’m ashamed to admit that I didn’t have very high expectations for this book. I was so wrong, this book is so good. I loved it so much. Wes is such a lovable character and Hudson grew on me (though I wanted to reach into the book and slap in at one point). The story was amazing, there were enough plot twists that I never guessed who the “bad guy” was until it was revealed, which is rare for me, I usually have that figured out right away. I actually laughed out loud, which is also rare for me, I read a lot of book with humor and even though I think they are funny I rarely laugh out loud. I also cried, which is a lot more common for me, but I sometimes judge how well a book is written if it didn’t make me cry. I love when authors pull the emotions out of me. The narrator also did a great job bringing the characters to life. The narrator really gave this book the energy it deserves. I don’t have a single negative thing to say about this book. Which is also rare for me, lol, I’m picky. I was so happy when I got to the end and realized that there is another book in the series. I can’t wait to get started on that one!

Good mystery

The paranormal part was well written. The romance was good and hot, I could see the feelings between Wes and Hudson. I wanted them to be together. The mystery was good, exiting and with some surprises. I would like to read this book again and I am going to read the next one. Greg has done a wonderful job of reading this book. His narration is always good, and this one did not disappoint.

Not What I Expected...

When I read the outline for this book, I was slightly intrigued and wanted to know more. Well, I'm not a spoiler but I will say...it was not what I was expecting...it was so much more. Meeting Wes Cooper and Hudson Rojas was interesting and you could feel the unresolved feelings between the two through the words of the author (Burke) and the delivery of the words by Boudreaux. Thrust back together after some time, the intense feelings are palatable. Murder and mayhem ensue...not to mention some plots and twists that involve the paranormal and supernatural. A great start to a series and I look forward to reading the next section of the story...

thoroughly entertained - loved it !

Would I listen to it again: yes Did the story keep me engaged: absolutely Was I invested in the characters: definitely What did I like about the story? was fun, entertaining and well paced. More story than sex (which I like) and the unique take on a ghost and vampire romance! Was there anything that didn't work for me? nope - loved every second of it. Overall comment: Jenn Burke is a new author for me and I was thoroughly entertained, and surprised with some of the elements of this delightful paranormal romance. Both the main and supporting characters are well written and likeable. I'm diving straight into book 2. Narrator comment: Greg Boudreaux can do no wrong in my book. I'm so happy he''s narrating this series, his skill and performance as a voice actor bring these characters to life and do justice to a story that shines. 😁.

Must Have!

I just finished this and I'm about to dive into book 2 and I already pre-ordered book 3. Jenn Burke is a new to me author and I picked this up because Greg Tremblay was narrating it. I had just come off a heavy book and I wanted something not. I usually go to a new detective or police book so this was in my browsing and I said sure why not. What I didn't know was that I was going to be in store for one of the most brilliantly written books I've listened to this year. Greg nailed this book beautifully. I loved this book so much that 30ish% in a bought a copy for my BFF and forced her to start listening to it. So far she loves it too. I don't want to give anything away so I'll just say that it's unique, fun, loads of humor and feels that had me tearing at my desk twice. Thank you Jenn for sharing your imagination with us and thank you Greg for bringing it to life for my ear holes while I write boring software test scripts. If you haven't read or listened to this book and the series go do it don't wait. I guarantee you need this in your heart. ;)

Not fireworks

3.5 Blue Roses 3.5 Blue Flames Narrator Greg Boudreaux gave a good performance of this new paranormal romance. I usually love all things vampires, but listening to this audiobook felt like work while I was waiting for the fireworks that never came. The plot is perfect, but the dialogues were dry and I didn't experience any emotional connection or intrigue from the characters. I recommend this audiobook for a younger audience, or listeners who like good vampires. Happy Listening

What a Let Down

This book started out pretty good. The first half I liked... and then it died. The ending was sooo hard to get through. There were some good parts, but the constant whining and crying and boo hoo-ing had me rolling my eyes and cringing. The main character is so weak and pitiful.

Not friendly to bi readers

I'm so conflicted about this book, because I really did get invested. The narration is top notch, and the plot is engaging. However, as a bi reader I was really disheartened to find that the sole bisexual character ended up being portrayed as your stereotypical sex-obsessed cheater. The author puts a lot of care into handling topics like assault, consent, and did their research on ace spectrum sexualities, but completely dropped the ball with this character. It shattered my interest in the story and I had to actually take a break because it was just really upsetting. There's already rampant stereotyping about bi people being more likely to cheat or that they'll 'betray' their partner for a different gender and I wasn't going into this thinking I'd get more of that thrown at me. They go so far as to treat her like she's disease-ridden and doesn't care about practicing safe sex. I really tried to toss this out of my mind, because I genuinely like the story, but it soured a lot of the enjoyment I had going for the book.
