Summary

Welcome to the Nightworld Academy, attended by vampires, shifters, and witches. A place filled with harmony and mutual respect between the supernatural races. Sometimes.

I'm told my curse is a gift. A valuable one that could cost me my life.

My visions of the future are weird, but my new school is weirder. All lessons take place in the evening and the majority of students are on an advanced program where they take extra classes late into the night.

I enrolled at the academy because my last school expelled me for punching another student. Nobody believed that I knocked Tyler unconscious to stop somebody else dying. But why would they believe the crazy girl?

I expected to meet other troubled teens here, but the pupils are predictable for an English boarding school. There's Ash, the rugby team captain and the academy’s most popular guy. Then there’s Andrei, the moody guy with a bad attitude who takes pleasure in annoying me. And Jamie who’s studious and friendly but intense.

I thought I had the academy figured out: the mean girl, the quirky friend, the nerd, the emo, and the jock. But on the evening I swear allegiance to my new school house, everything spins out of control and I realize I’m dealing with more.

Much more.

One of us will die, and I know who.

Term One is the first in this new upper YA/NA series of magic academy books. The main characters are eighteen and older and this is a slow burn RH. As the series is set at a school in England, the books are written in British English.

Good Listen

This audiobook was a great listen.

Mei is a young girl who has had visions most of her life not knowing she’s a witch. She ends up at the academy under false pretenses but soon realizes what’s really going on.

You get vampires, witches, & shifters all in one! You get some action, suspense, and chemistry between the characters. This PNR has a little of everything that is good! Can’t wait for term 2!

Sarah & Steve both did great jobs narrating!

A brilliant Academy story

This was a really good story about witches, shifters and vampires!
I really liked the different types of each of the supernatural races, which gave a really good depth to the world.

As I feel with so many of the academy stories, where they cover an entire year in one book, I miss some more day to day stuff, to see how life is, when the characters aren't in the middle of drama and action.

And I really enjoyed the two amazing narrators, who did a splendid job on this audiobook! I especially enjoyed Steve Campbell's lovely voice.

Nightworld Academy

Great story full of suspense. High school is bad enough but add supernaturals to the mix and it's a whole new ball game. New author for me and I definitely want to see what happens next with these characters.
Loved the narrators and how the brought each of these characters and personalities to life.

MC a little annoying but stick with it!

I really enjoyed the story, okay so Maeve was a bit annoying, but I have had a teenage daughter and they are annoying at that age!
The lessons being in the evening and night were a great difference from other ‘magical’ academy books I have read previously and the whole storyline gripped me. She does have rather a lot of boys swooning after her, but that is the whole point as it is a slow burn RH book.
Overall it flowed well, the narrator expressed herself very well and I was pulled into the Academy with Maeve.

Great narration!

A fast-paced paranormal Academy Romance and a main character with an unusual, intriguing talent!

Both narrators were new to me and I was very impressed with Steve Campbell. He narrated each guys' chapters in a clearly distinguishable voice.
Sarah Colton also did a fantastic narration. The whiny, breathless voice she used at times was a bit less enjoyable. But it absolutely fits the main character.

I would have liked it, had the main character been just a little bit more of a badass (fitting the paranormal setting) or a little wiser and centered (fitting her gift as a seer). I also didn't quite understand why the school did so little to introduce her into the world of supernaturals.

That being said, overall, I really enjoyed this book and am looking forward to continuing this series.

A great start to this Paranormal series.

This is the first book in the Nightworld Academy series. The storyline was well written and very detailed. The author went to great depths to create this world and give us a great introduction to these interesting characters. With witches, vampires, shifters and hunters this novel was an awesome paranormal YA story and I can't wait to read more. While I loved the characters in this novel the main f character was a bit immature and I'm hoping her characters matures and we see her growth and development in the coming books.
The audiobook was narrated by Sarah Colton and Steve Campbell. They both did an excellent job with these characters. They created different voices for each character and really brought the story to life. I enjoyed listening to them narrate this novel.
Nightworld Academy was an awesome start to a new paranormal series and I would highly recommend it to all YA paranormal lovers.

This was a new to me author, and new to me narrators. I have recently started to get into PNR books, and I love that mixed with the YA. The story was very well written, I loved the characters. The narrations was also very enjoyable, the performance made each character very real.

CAN'T WAIT FOR THE NEXT ONE

This story was interesting from the beginning, and as the book progressed it got more interesting. The main character, Maeve, was kinda irritating but the plot more than made up for it.
Sarah Colton and Steve Campbell have excellent chemistry, and their voices were so well matched with each other. In other words, GREAT NARRATION.
I personally cannot wait for the next audiobook and am itching to get my hands on it. NIghtworld Academy: Year One was definitely worth the time spent listening to it. Buy it, you won't regret it.

Enjoyed it

I enjoyed this book. It was a slow burn, which i don't mind. The main character is thrust into a completely new world of supernaturals which she had no idea existed. She was always told she was crazy. Then to find out she was actually a witch who sees the future. The narration brings in a whole new level to this book. I can't wait to read more in this series!

Good story, so so MC

I really enjoyed they story. The plot progression was on point for me, and the narration was great. Loved the sub characters and the slow burn. The main character has some great aspects but also some things that made feel “eh” about her. There were moments where she seemed a bit whiny or immature but some of those parts made you feel her emotions on a relatable level too. Over all I would give this book a try. The story is good enough to ignore the minor annoyances for. I was given my copy for an unbiased review.

Good start to this supernatural academy series

I have read a lot of other RH series by LJ Swallow but for some reason I hadn’t picked this one up yet. I am so glad I got to listen to it on audio because the narrators really brought this story to life in my head. I haven’t been listening or reading the recent releases in the supernatural/paranormal academy book genre, but I enjoyed this story and characters LJ has created and look forward to more!

I hadn’t listened to any audiobooks by these 2 narrators and they pleasantly surprised me. Added them to my “good/awesome” list for sure. I wish there had been more Steve to be honest, but that was all dependent on the storyline and chapter POVs really. I did enjoy during and after the confrontation at the end his various accents/changes in the intonation. I could figure out the different characters very well. I thought Sarah did a good job with Maeve and the supporting characters (esp Kathryn). I could feel the various emotions Sarah portrayed, very good job!

Regarding the actual story, I really enjoyed the different creatures/beings that are included and the odes to Harry Potter made me giggle and smile. I think I actually liked the supporting characters more than the MC, which is why I couldn’t give the story 5 stars. I think she has a lot of room to grow which is great for the overarching story. I just think as the book went on, I wasn’t connecting with her as much/was yelling at her to just tell people what she saw haha. I definitely am interested to see what happens between her and the various men in her life. I couldn’t pick my fav, but Andrei was probably winning just a tad. I thought he had some amazing vulnerable moments that left me wanting to know more about him. I usually go for the nerd buuuut not this time haha.

I definitely am going to listen to book 2 right away, I need to know what happens next! Totally recommend this series and give two thumbs up to these narrators, for anyone looking for a new supernatural story to get lost in ❤️

Another perfect addition to my favorite academy re

Oh but I enjoyed this one, really.

I whispersynced this audio to my ebook and I had the best reading and listening experience!

The story was slow burn, yes, but that's how I feel like it should be. Make it a little believable. The heroine was thrown into a whole new world for her, making her the new girl in a school were dangers and the darks of the nights lurks and prey.

Meeting the guys and slowly building something with them is a perfect route for the story. It makes you feel the heroine's frustrations and struggles and confusions.

I'm sure in the next installment, a new development and new plot growth will happen.

I can't wait!

Love Sarah Colton

Maeve has never been 'normal'. She has visions that everyone else calls hallucinations. After she was expelled from her school when she interfered with a vision, Maeve's parents enrolled her in a private boarding school. They promised there would be people there who could help her. Her new academy was not like she expected. Classes are at night, the students all seem to know things that she doesn't, and they're all in an advanced program that goes late into the night. Struggling, feeling alone and fearful Maeve starts making friends, her roommate Amelia, Jamie the sexy geek, Ash, the popular rugby team captain, and the bad boy Andrei. But there's' so much more to this academy than Maeve expected. A whole new world is opened up. But with it are dangers. Not everyone will make it through the school term. And with her visions, Maeve knows who.

The world-building is exceptional, the characters are well-thought-out, and the story is fantastic. I prefer snarky, confident-pretending Maeve to scared Maeve but I found both completely realistic. Each of her new friends comes with their own baggage that equals her past. It draws them together and creates distance at the same time. It's a dynamite dynamic. The guys are all so different and Maeve interacts with each differently. I like that. I also have questions about a certain teacher. What exactly is going on? I know what I think, what I want, but I may be way off base.

There are so many layers to this story, so many ways this story can go. The Dominion, the Confederacy, hunters, mean girls with an extra bite, a witch, a shifter, and a vamp or two, visions, classes, and house wars. I'm excited to see what's next for Maeve. I had read the book before but this was my first time listening to it. I was enchanted with Sarah Colton. Steve Campbell does an excellent job with the boys but Sarah captured Maeve to perfection. I enjoyed it tremendously on audio.

A great start to a new series

L.J. Swallow has done a fantastic job of drawing me into the new world she has created in her Night World Academy. From the very start I was hooked and she never let me go. I devoured this book. When I had to put the book down - to live in the real world, the characters she created lingered in my thoughts. I couldn't wait to get back to find out what would happen next.

When Maeve is sent to the Nightworld Academy, she has no idea what she is in store for. This strange new school is more than she ever knew exhisted in this world. Vampires, Shifters, and Witches were things she had only heard of on television and in the movies. Little did she know she was among them.

She'd always wondered why she got strange visions and did her best to hide the fact she was different from those around her. But at this new school, she is not the only one with unique abilities. When she finally discovers who she is and what she is capable of, she's forced with the delimma of choosing to tell others the truth or keep her thoughts to herself.

Well, secrets of her nature can't be kept for long. But the question is - will she be able to stop the visions from happening?

I cannot wait to read the next book in this series. Well done, L.J. Swallow. I love the world you created and need Term two ASAP.

PS - The narration to this book only brought L.J. Swallow's words to life. Sarah Colton and Steve Campbell were fantastic at their performance in this story. I am new to them as narrators, but this will not be the last I listen to them.

Amazing story and perfect narration

This book was really good. It kept me interested the entire time. I am very interested to know what is going to happen next since certain things throughout the book are hinted at. Mave is a great character. She has the perfect mix of timidity and spunk. Her friends provide the perfect balance to her character as well. Can’t wait to start book 2.

New author to me but fantastic

This book was great. I loved Maeve and the fact that she wanted to try and do good with her visions even though she didn't fully understand them. Following along in her journey of her finding out what she is to honing in on her powers to working with others to develop her powers, helped you relate emotionally to the character. I have to say, the narrators did an amazing job as well. I can't wait for Term 2.
