About this listen

THIS IS A NOVELLA, over 30,000 words. Book 4.5 in the Curse of the Gods Series

Emmy was born a dweller and she expected to die as a dweller ... until Willa changed everything. Now she has no idea of her path, and she certainly wasn't prepared for what would happen after her death. Caught in the middle of a war that threatened to prove much more significant than anyone had ever expected, there is only one person who can help her ... but his terms are steep.

Cyrus was born out of necessity: a being of light, brought to life with a singular purpose. Time has changed him and the recent events have unsettled him … but a certain transformed dweller is about to do much worse than that. She is about to turn his existence upside down. Topia is giving them no choice: they survive together, or the war is lost.

A short novel in the POVs of Emmy and Syrius. The last battle in book 4 ended with a change for Emmy and this book picks up from their in Emmys POV as she wakes up in Syrius's hidden home.

The different POVs, I liked and wished were replicated across all the books. It added to the characters and story, making a short filler seem more interesting somehow. Oh, the smex was hotter, an improvement, although it could still do with more descriptive words on the feels and thoughts, and considering it's Syris just more!

What let the audio version of this book down, was the narrator. Example, 1st POV for Syrius's inner monologue was in a mixed voice of Willa and Emmy, before switching to Syrius as he spoke out loud, after that the inner and outer voice pretty much started to sound the same...annoyingly Syrius sounded more and more stuck up and whiny...

Good thing is, it's not that bad, could have been bad enough to put me off the book. But it does miss out on the opportunity to add a dimension to the book making it more vibrant in my head. Sometimes the voice the narrators do, do that for me, they add an element my brain didn't conceive...

Oh well. It's still worth a read, it still adds to the series. Willa still manages to make me laugh even though this story is Emmy's. And most importantly, I am still addicted to the series.
