About this listen

Many people compare depression to an abyss - a never-ending downward spiral of hopelessness. In this heavy, but empowering, follow-up to the best-selling Get Out of Your Head: A Toolkit for Living with and Overcoming Anxiety, author Brian Sachetta takes that comparison literally, bringing listeners on an aquatic adventure, through one of life's most difficult challenges.

On that journey, Sachetta explores the biological, psychological, and social forces behind the affliction, to help listeners understand how it often manifests in their lives. And, most importantly, he provides a beacon of hope to those stranded at sea, or caught in the whirlpool of despair.

It's one mental health voyage you won't want to miss.

This is a great book on navigating your life through depression. I found it to be very well researched and informative. The author speaks from experience on this topic and gives many personal accounts to back up ideas.

I like the way the way metaphors are used to add interest and help the reader connect with the tips and strategies offered, of which there are many.

This is valuable book that will support anyone encountering any negative feelings and can be used as a guide to battling through these feelings with a clear goal in mind.

It's definitely a book that anyone who is having a very hard time, or even those who have friends or family who is facing depression, should listen to and recommend to them. Because, not only does it teach you why is it so important and beneficial to accept the reality of those dark periods of your life in such a simple and easy manner, but it also helps you get over yourself and stop dwelling in the past in such a straightforward manner. When the perfect book comes into your life, it's usually because you need that information and clarity. This one gave me both- I've been struggling with anxiety since childhood but also had a spell where depression took over completely; now, thankfully for this audiobook, there are tools for coping which make all those days just get better little by little! What an amazing listen! I loved everything about it and learned so much valuable information to help with my depression.
