Summary

After narrowly surviving my debut into the magical world, I made a promise to myself: no more hiding in broom closets. But with the Mages' Guild reorganizing faster than anyone thought possible, and naming me as their number one target, that promise seems a little far-fetched. Especially since my training with Callie and Dizzy, the highly experienced dual-mage pair, goes off like a cake in a cannon. Left to find someone that can fill the role, it isn't until a formal dinner party goes horribly wrong that I find the best (and worst) solution imaginable: Reagan Somerset, the leather-clad crazy woman who busted into my broom closet sanctuary in the first place. Through an off-kilter teaching style and many punches in the face, I learn my true potential. But with her happier busting heads and kicking in doors than staying put with a pupil in hiding, it isn't long before the world comes crashing down. The Guild has found me, and they intend to take me alive.

Good addition to the Regan Somerset story

I enjoy KFs writing and loved the fire and ice series so was looking forward to starting this, I will say the heroine of this series (Penny) is no Regan! More of a Bridget Jones with magic, which to be honest I’m not a fan of- I like my heroines to know their own mind and be tough yet vulnerable rather than just vulnerable. I also do not think I’ve come across a ruder or more unlikable character than Penny’s mother!! The entrance of Regan and Darius saved this series for me and I do love Penny and Regans friendship and would love to see that blossom (female friendships are often forgotten in romance novels but it’s so good to read) I would definitely recommend it to fans of supernatural romance but I’d say read Fire and Ice first. Looking forward to the third book!

best yet

I maybe wrong but to me this book is the best yet. Really enjoyed listening, I shall go back and listen to the others of this author that I have. As usual plenty of humour mixed into dire situations, excellent story, dialogue and descriptions. I intended to spread.out the listening over a few days, but the story would not let me switch off. Brilliant.

Love this series!

Wowser! I'm suffering from a book hangover! The story is very entertaining, hilarious, and it was just simply cool that characters from the Fire and Ice trilogy make a substantial appearance in this book! I laughed, yelled, and wanted to help kick some rear! The story was unpredictable and exciting! The characters are snarky, sarcastic, and quite funny! Going back for a second listen! Nicole Poole did a nice job with providing individual voices for each character and appropriate tone inflections for each scene.

the main character has lots of power ,but no sense

in the first book she had people to help guide her.in this book she demonstrates her complete lack of common sense,or sense of self preservation.she knows almost nothing about the supernatural world, and refuses to listen to any of the experts surrounding her.,she doesn't have the self preservation instincts of the average house pet.the author is obviously capable of writing an enjoyable and interesting book, but I spent too much time yelling at the main character for being such a moron, that I did not enjoy this one.

Go Penny!

Well that was a bowl of crazy mage and fireball soup! Go Penny! I love how this character has developed from a novice to a novice with a powerful magical punch. She’s unpredictable at the best of times and totally out of her element at the best of times. It’s the best game of cat and mouse I’ve ever seen!

While training with the dual mages things just don’t seem to go right so Darius, vampire elder pulls his cards and puts her with his bonded warrior to train. Needless to say, Penny and Reagan together is a sight to behold and an explosion waiting to happen. No matter the method used, Reagan is the best one to train her.

Aside from Emory....

So when he shows back up things take a whole new turn. It’s as if no time has passed yet the bond that pulls them closer makes both Emory and Penny realize just how special the two of them are to each other and as a team.

Heads start to roll and it’s a lot of fun watching things unfold... I can’t wait for more!

Absolutely a MUST Read

This series continues to hold my attention and does not disappoint. The ending was not as powerful as I had imagined and I don't want to spoil it for anyone.

Intriguing story, but unlikable character

I liked the story and I’m interested in seeing how the series plays out. Only complaint is that Penny’s character was annoyingly whiny and appears to be a polar opposite to Reagan (especially in the confidence category). I hope to see her improve throughout the series though some proper character development.

Love this series

This book moves at a nice pace. The author doesn’t drag out storylines and the characters are well-balanced. Looking forward to listening to the rest of the series.

Intense!!

This installment had so much action. It was awesome getting to see the shifters, witches, and vampires at work. Penny is struggling after Emory but she idea steadily working hard to train and to defend herself against the mages. I love the progress she has made so far and ir was great to see Reagan more in this book. I loved the scene at Darius house when Penny was battling for her life. That whole scene was intense!
The narrator did a wonderful job bringing the story alive for me. It felt like was watching a movie play. Nicole Poole is brilliant with the voices and inflections she uses.
Can’t wait for the next book. Have it cued up and ready to go!!

Such Unique Vocal Signatures

I love how Nicole Poole assigns a unique tone to each character and keeps that assignment throughout the series of books. Her narration skills are remarkable!
