Summary

Written by Nikola Tesla at the age of 63, this autobiography is a fascinating glimpse into the interior life of a man who may have contributed more to the fields of electricity, radio, and television than any other person living or dead, a man certainly possessed of genius, and one who some consider the most important man of the 20th century.

My Inventions is a firsthand account not only of the art and science behind the conception, execution, and reception of Tesla's most famous inventions but of his early life and first creative efforts as well. History buffs, science enthusiasts, backyard inventors, and anyone who has ever dared to dream big will be thrilled to hear this engaging, informative, and uniquely humorous autobiography.

Undisputed genius, a man ahead of his time

A short book, shorter than I expected, but nevertheless brilliant, just as inspirational but I guess he was a busy bloke! Visions, sleepless nights, stimulants, gambling and mental health problems from the first chapter! I’ve got the physical book also, and I couldn’t put it down! A tragic unappreciated genius, ahead of his time, some of his visions are still being developed today! Of course, I am finishing off the book by listening on audible while my phone charges up on a wireless charger one of his many visions, which I thought was quite ironic / apt.

A great book filled with interesting information

i adore Tesla and this book is very interesting to read, however, the monotone performance males it a boring listen at some point.

Just a genius

I knew about Tesla and had watched some videos on him, but upon reading this I never fully grasped just how intelligent and intuitive he was. A great man and a true genius, definitely worth listening to.

The great Nikola Tesla and his inventions!

Such a short and insightful book of this great inventor! It's a shame why his name it's not so well known as he would deserve. I recommend this book to anyone who has great interest in science and has a mind inclined to research and inventions.

Genius

I didn't know much about Tesla so a chance to listen to this short book for free was a no brainer, he was way ahead of his time and a lot smarter than most people back then.

Interesting at times

A fascinating figure but not a great writer in my opinion. Overall, I'm not a big fan of this

My Inventions

There are remarkably few inventions in this book.
All the insight into Tesla's thought processes and inner experiences are fascinating, although as someone with aphantasia I'm extremely envious of his hypervisualization abilities!
The book is worth reading for this insight alone.

The book also strangely contained some opinions and ideas on various matters that were not relevant and not his speciality which I found mildly irritating. That whole bit comparing chewing gum, tea etc.. to alcohol? And other random bits here and there - towards the end there was a bit about spirituality.

I thought it was a book about Tesla's inventions so I was disappointed. I would have been just as happy if the whole thing were an autobiography.
But what you get is a mishmash of parts of stories, thoughts, explanations etc...

Most of what was said seemed to be missing context. I don't know, maybe I'm just stupid but there were so many stories and discussions about things that I had no idea what was going on. There was a story about a man jumping off of a bridge - who was he?
The joke about the guy working in a slaughter house - what was that about? Was it for giving the animals the right dose of lethal injection? Was it to make sure he got every penny's worth out of them at the market? What was it?!

The discussions about this and that invention seemed to require prior knowledge of not only his own inventions, but also that of others of the time, and also other information about what technology was in use at that time for comparisons etc...

The narrator was very boring. Sorry. I don't know were they trying to get someone who spoke in the way they all spoke on radio back then? I don't know if it was just this narrator's voice or if there was also an issue with the quality of the recording but I found it very hard to hear what was being said and I had to concentrate to do so.

Interesting but not a thrilling listen

Very interesting and clearly a remarkable mind but isn’t an exciting listen by any stretch
