About this listen

Mrs. D is an alcoholic, albeit a very nice, respectable, articulate, and groomed alcoholic.

This is an honest, upfront, relatable account of one suburban housewife's journey from miserable wine-soaked boozer to self-respecting sober lady.

This audiobook is an inspirational tale of self-transformation, addiction, and domesticity. This audiobook lays out the entirely unexpected solo journey Mrs. D took in the first year of her sobriety and reveals the incredible online support that came through on her confessional blog, a blog intended to be a private online diary but turned into something else quite remarkable.

A very relatable account of tackling dysfunctional drinking and coming out on the other side.

Disturbed me through rhe whole book that it was read in a (fake?) Aussie accent.

Accent of reader is not even NZ

An enjoyable read that offers a relatively novel tale on alcohol misuse. It recognised that most alcohol misuse is not lying in the gutter penniless but instead is not living life to its full.

I’ve dropped one star as there is a total lack of recognition of addiction theory, alcohol use disorder, and science. That in itself is absolutely fine, Mrs D found what worked for her. But a pointer to any newly sober people as to where to find that information wouldn’t go amiss.

A Good Read

As someone in the process of giving up drinking, this was one of the books I chose to read in my quest to ‘go it alone’ I’m so glad I did! It’s funny, informative and very real.

I loved it.
