Summary

Book three in the Something in the Way series. Includes an exclusive Q&A with the author-only available in the audiobook! "One of the best books of 2017 I've read." -- USA Today's Happy Ever After

Lake

It was a hot summer day when I met him on the construction site next to my parents' house. If I'd known then what I do now, would I have kept on walking? Manning was older, darker, experienced--and I'd trusted him when he said the story would only ever be about us. I'd held those words close and challenged fate, but I had lost. A part of me is still that sixteen-year-old girl squinting up at Manning, but no matter how far I fall or high I soar, I'll always be a bird without her bear and nothing without him.

Manning

When I close my eyes, I can no longer see her. The decisions I made were to push Lake in the right direction--away from me. But now that she's gone, would I have made those same choices? I'd walked away like I was supposed to. I'd kept my distance. I'd bent over backward to keep Lake pure, but she's no longer that girl, and I don't know if I can stay away anymore. I only know I don't want to. She's still everything I want and nothing I should ever have, but if anyone can move the stars, it's her great bear in the sky.

OH BOY!!

I have loved this story from start to finish and am so glad that there is going to be a fourth book. It is clear from Jessica Hawkins' Q and A at the end of Move The Stars that her own story has moved her as much as it did me. I lived the story with the characters and felt their pain, their frustration and, ultimately, their passion.
This series is beautifully sculpted, empathetic and well written. It is also beautifully and sensitively narrated and performed by two First Class Narrators Andi Arndt and Zachary Webber - a fantastic choice, Jessica and a beautiful story!

Please make Zach Webber the new voice for Siri...

I can’t lie. I purposely seek out books read by Zachary Webber. He is by far the best in his craft and I’ve been doing this since the days of Frank Muller, who was also pure genius! Although two very different performers, there is just something about Webber that brings a new dimension to each and every character. His voice is velvety smooth, bravado just perfect! I can’t imagine Manning any other way! I have listened to Arndt as well and I think she too was a smart choice for Lake, but Webber could probably recite the alphabet and I’d be in heaven! Bring on the steamy conclusion!

Two Great Narrators Paired on this Great Listen

Awesome continuation in the saga, but if you listen/read it first it can be a stand-a-lone and not miss out on the main points of history, but listening/reading each book individually is sooooo worth it! I can't wait for the fourth and final book in this epic saga.

If you don’t find affairs romantic, don’t waste your credit.

Unpopular opinion: The only positive thing about this book, in my opinion, was the narrators. But even they couldn’t make me like this book. I wish I could go back and change my review of the first two books, because if I had known the direction the author was going to take this book in, I would’ve rated them much lower.

*SPOILERS*

For starters, I don’t feel like the author made it believable enough that they are truly in love. Their “love” came across more as lust that turned into an unhealthy obsession due to them being forbidden to be together. And they used their unhealthy obsession/ “love” to justify hurting Tiffany. Don’t get me wrong, Tiffany completely irritated me at times, especially at the very beginning of the series. However, I couldn’t get on board with Lake and Manning’s affair. And it especially ticked me off when Lake was mad at Tiffany for tricking Manning into impregnating her to insure he wouldn’t leave her for Lake. I get why Manning would be irritated, because no one should be tricked into having a child, but Lake had no right to be angry. Manning was TIFFANY’S husband, not hers! Manning made a promise to TIFFANY to love her and care for her for the rest of their lives, and even though I don’t agree with Tiffany for going off birth control without telling Manning, it broke my heart that she felt the need to take such drastic measures to insure her husband wouldn’t abandon her for her sister. At that point in the story, Lake had no real claim over Manning, and it irritated me that she acted as though Tiffany was wrong for trying to keep her marriage together. Then after Tiffany had a miscarriage and she and Manning divorced, Manning and Lake continued with their “woe is me - I’ll never be happy unless I’m with Manning/Lake” attitude, but neither one of them did anything about it for FOUR YEARS. Then when Manning finally tried to reconnect with Lake at a time when they were both single, THAT’S when Lake tried to put up a fight? Of course she caved in the end, but it drove me nuts that after 10 years of self pity and with nothing standing in their way for the first time EVER, she was going to try to turn him down after wallowing all those years.

Like I said, this book pretty much tainted the whole series for me. Maybe it’s just me, but affairs are an immediate turn off. I wish that the author had had Manning and Tiffany realize that they were wrong for each other and divorce BEFORE he left to go find Lake. I also wish their “love” was more believable, instead of coming across as just a forbidden lust filled obsession.

Ending that was left with so many question.

I started to listen to the three book series on a Friday and by Sunday morning about 3 am. I finished it. I literally could not stop listening. This has been one of the most intense series that I have ever read/listened to this year. I still can't get this story out of my head.

Each character including the supporting characters, brought out so many emotions for me.... good and bad. This 3rd installment is the contination (4 years later) after Manning goes back the Cali, leaving Lake uoset after learning that Tiffany is now pregnant with his child. we ultimately learn what happened to Tiffany and Manning after he leave Lake in New York, which is heartbreaking but a neccessary plot direction if you are Team Lake and Manning, which Im sure most people are. Even though this was probably my least favorite book, I loved the scenes when Lake and Manning are forced to expose their secrete. One of my favorite scenes is when Lake and Tiffany reunite as adults to have an honest discussion about their relationship with Manning and the damaged that all three caused each other. I have mixed feeling about the ending. Even though the reunion between Manning and Lake is good, I felt it was a bit rushed. I felt like I needed more because I was left with so many unanswered questions about all the characters.

I still gave this bookb a 5 star review, but I would have only given a 4 star if I had not learned that Jessica Hawkins decided to do one more book on Manning and Lake's life going forward. The narration is brilliant and Andi and Zachary bring so much to all the characters. They are two of my favorites.

I can finally breathe

It’s been darn near 25 hours, but I can finally breathe. I don’t think it is a spoiler to say that you get an HEA with this series. You deserve it. There is pain and torture and suffering and heartbreak and anxiety all throughout. I can finally breathe.

Lake and Manning are such complex characters, actually all of the characters are so complex. The layering is truly genius and an art form that Jessica Hawkins should be proud of. I have said this since book 1, that there just wasn’t enough joy and I still say that about this book as well. I really do feel the reader deserves a few slivers of happiness and although there were some in this book, I think the tone of the narration added to the morose feeling throughout. But when the ending came and the tears flowed and my hand flew to my mouth and I was gasping for breath, none of anything mattered besides Lake and Manning’s happy ending.

Andi and Zach work beautifully together.

Emotional rollercoaster

OMG I can't this was so much all at once. I loved this book. Lake and Manning story from the very beginning had me on a rollercoaster ride. I wanted them to get together so bad they been through so many obstacles my heart couldn't take it. I couldn't stop listening from their steamy hook up to the downfall of it. From the very beginning I hated Tiffany for what she done to her sister knowing how Lake felt about Manning they all knew but ignored it and kept them apart. I recommend this book. Zachary Webber and Andi Arndt are my favorite narrators both of them preformed each part very well.

Loved!

5 stars: The books / series impressed on me and i will recommend and reread this title.
I tell others about the story and or book(s) in regular conversation to expose the author.
I give my full support to this book.

I do not judge books based on the actor(s) / narrator(s) only the story line and content.
Thank you for your time, but to reinforce, i would reread and recommend this specific title.

I only give 5 stars in my top 10% of books.

The best set yet

I wasn’t even interested in reading (or I should say , listening to. ) this series. Now that I have I can’t find anything else that comes close. Not in this genre and length at least. I’m sure you’ve been where I am everything else I listen to is just a letdown. Needless to say I highly recommend these
