About this listen

Self confessed control freak Charlotte Fraser takes a leap out of her comfort zone with a one-night stand in the city. There's no way, after all, that she's ever going to bump into the handsome millionaire businessman in her tiny village in the Scottish Highlands…

Back home, she's determined to get her hands on Midsummer House, the dream property for her holiday cottage business—even if that means giving in to the slightly odd request by the eccentric owner that she house-sit for three months while she takes a trip around Europe to make her mind up about selling.

High-flying financial trader Rob Jones is at an unexpected loose end when his long-lost aunt Frances calls looking for some advice. He hasn't been back to visit since the tragedy which cut the threads that bound his family together, but deciding to make amends, he heads to the Highlands to stay at her place and help out with some repairs…

With both having a reason to stay, it's a battle of wills to see who'll give in and move out first. Rob realises that Charlotte is determined nobody should know about their one night stand—but with the undeniable attraction between them, how easy is it going to be?

As the village of Applemore casts a welcoming spell on Rob, he starts to wonder if he's got his priorities in life all wrong… but if he stays put, where does that leave Charlotte's plans for Midsummer House?

Escape to the Scottish Highlands with this small town tale full of friendship, love and romance, from the bestselling author of The Winter Cottage and The Flower Farm.

***

Author's note: Midsummer House is a standalone novel, set in the small town of Applemore in the Scottish Highlands—if you've enjoyed The Winter Cottage, or The Flower Farm, you'll meet some of the characters you loved from that story, but each sweet Applemore novel can be enjoyed independently and has a guaranteed HEA.

These stories are beautifully written and superbly narrated. Even the South African accent is almost bearable. I have such empathy for Charlotte, just trying to secure a place for herself in the world through courage and determination, despite really being at the mercy of those around her, albeit in a very benevolent manner. The point is missed later in the book that her and her sisters have never owned applemore castle/house and Lachlan was well on his way to selling it out from under them which would have destroyed her livelihood she’d crafted so carefully. No wonder Charlotte wants to own her own excellent property! The author seems to subtly imply that she is wrong headed for wanting to own her own life and physical space and that it’s alright for her dream to be plucked out from under her because isn’t she silly to want it or chase it. There is a hoa but I felt (obviously due to my own situation) that she deserved better.

Thoroughly enjoyed the book, follows along the series well. However very disappointed in the reader, I even went and checked if she was the same as for the first two books. Why does she suddenly call Lachlan “Lochlon”? The SA accent was also not great. Shame as the story was good and this really distracted from it.

Good book, reader not as good as previous books
