Summary

Penguin presents the audio edition of Meant to Be, written and read by Lisa Faulkner.

What happens when life doesn’t turn out as you expect?

When Lisa Faulkner learned that she wouldn’t have biological children, her plans and expectations for her life were derailed. But, in the months and years that followed, she discovered that there was more than one way to build a family – and that there is a lot of joy to be found in life’s unexpected detours.

In a raw and inspiring story of one woman’s journey through motherhood, family life and self-discovery, Lisa explores the many forms that family can take, and discovers the power of embracing your Plan B. For anyone who has ever found themselves facing the unexpected in life – whether that’s infertility, adoption, grief or any other personal challenge – this is an uplifting and honest account of finding love in unexpected places, and building your life on your own terms.

Moving

Thank you Lisa for being so honest with your experience, this book really helped me and I related to everything she went through with ivf. Luckily I got a miracle child with ivf but a friend has recently adopted and this has really helped me understand what she has been through too. Thoroughly moving book and a brave and honest account of the epic journey some women face to become a mother.

Enjoyed hearing this journey with all the highs and lows

Beautifully read by Lisa and I valued her openness and honesty about her journey to becoming another. I couldn’t stop listening to this book until I finished it. Thank you as I know this will help those on the same journey.
(P/s - Lisa should read more audible books, such a lovely calming voice).

Open, honest account

A tough read at times but ultimately a story of hope, perserverence, love, family and friendship.

The thing I admired most was Lisa's willingness to show her vulnerability, insecurities and deepest and sometimes darkest thoughts and feelings about her long and often bumpy ride to becoming a mother, including the impact of losing her own mother. It was, raw, powerful and human. But above all it felt honest.

Lisa didn't sugar coat or dramatise her experiences but provided a detailed, factual account of what she went through and how she felt at the time, even when she was slightly misguided or drawing on stereotypes. She showed deep affection for her family and friends, as well as key figures who played their part in her journey. She was gracious and fair throughout, even when recounting more negative or unhelpful parts of the process recognising they all played a part in shaping her and her future family.

Thank you Lisa for opening up and talking about a number of emotionally charged issues that are often left unspoken. And to Billie, Chris and your families and besties as this was also their stories too.
