About this listen

Want to expand your German vocabulary with almost no effort? Then keep listening.

Are you planning a trip to Germany? Or sharpening your skills for work? Just press play on this audiobook when you’re sleeping, meditating, or doing chores around the house.

Learn new vocabulary while actively listening, or passively while you’re doing other things.

This audiobook contains:

  • More than 1,000 common German words and phrases
  • All original music (composed and performed by South African DJ and producer Spirante Beat) specifically to relax your mind

I'm sure your first question is: Can you actually learn a foreign language while you’re asleep? Well, according to a Swiss research study in 2014, the answer is unassailably yes! In this study, a group of German speakers was given a list of unfamiliar Dutch words to study. Half were instructed to get some sleep while they listened to long lists of Dutch words and translations. The other half was instructed to stay awake. Four hours later, they were tested and the group that listened while they slept had significantly higher recall. The study concluded that people can indeed absorb new information passively during non-REM sleep - which is the deep sleep we get in the first few hours of the night.

This audiobook is divided into six chapters, each with different kinds of vocabulary, and with different music. Choose a different chapter each night or loop the audiobook to have a continuous stream. Some listeners - those with more experience with the foreign language - have reported that these recordings allow them to dream in that language!

Sit back, relax, enjoy, and learn!

Useful vocabulary and the German narrator spoke perfectly for beginners. I learned a lot and want more from this author.

Well done..!!

This isn't my first listen in this series of learning languages in your sleep. As always, the music is relaxing (and entrancing!) and I was definitely able to retain some of the greetings and simple vocabulary after only a couple of nights listening to it. I mean, if you're hoping to learn a new language and are short on time (as is the case for most of us) this is a pretty good tool to keep in your library!

Relaxing and efficient!

It is a book that anyone who wants to learn German, or has a friend who wants to learn German, should listen to because not only does the narrator speak the words carefully in German before translating them into English, but there are also many real-life words you can use on a daily basis. It is because of this that I am able to enjoy myself, which is wonderful, but also because it is enjoyable to listen to the narrator speak German. As soon as I knew what the word meant and could remember what I wanted to say, I knew the audiobook had worked for me. My heartfelt hope is to keep on progressing.

I Highly recommend this book

I'm no stranger to this series. After successfully learning French, I decided to try German. After a few sleep sessions, I was able to pick up on a few common words and even some phrases. The sleep series is fantastic for learning to interpret the language, but speaking it correctly with the proper dialect is another manner. The book is soothing, but I thought the music got in the way sometimes. I'm a light sleeper, and the spoken word often puts me right to sleep. But, something about the tonal variations of music usually keeps me awake. However, the music in this audiobook is more neutral, so I was able to get to sleep more quickly. It took several sessions to get some phrases just right. Since I already know French, I wanted to try to learn some new terms. So I tried the German equivalent of bon appetit, which came out like Guten Appetit. Anyway, if you are looking for a good audiobook for learning German than look no further than this one. I highly recommend it.
