About this listen

Riddled with guilt, Kallista grew up defiantly believing that she could solve the case of who the Butcher truly was, and that there was more to him than met the eye. Convinced he was responsible for more than just a few murders that rocked her childhood, Kallista teams up with a detective and an old friend to solve the cases.

Nightmares cross reality though, when the haunting figure from her sister’s dreams appear to her and deliver a warning that Kallista might be next on The Butcher’s list.

This is book two of The Butcher Books.

Loved the narration of Jacq Ainsworth

Kallista is now an investigator. She is trying to solve the murder of her sister Tatum. Her murder was the last of a serial killer's murders.

Thank you to the author and StoryOrigin for providing a free review copy of this audiobook for which I am writing an honest and unbiased review.

This second instalment in the Butcher series feels like a step up from the first, adding an investigative thread as Kallista searches for answers about her sister’s killer and the other connected murders. Kallista herself is more perceptive and engaged than Tatum was, and the inclusion of her detective friend brings a welcome sense of cooperation and momentum to the story. The ending took a turn I didn’t expect, which added some freshness to the familiar setup.

The narration remains serviceable—pleasant to listen to but largely straightforward, with limited emotional depth or performance to elevate the tension.

Wow wow wow!!! I was really intrigued where this was going to go with the ending of the last book. The development of the story and the continuation is brilliantly done. I don’t want to spoil the ending but it is amazing. It sets up really well for the last book. I was literally screaming along whilst listening to this. It got me that involved that I was cheering certain characters on. I really like the way that the author doesn’t hold back with the grim and brutal descriptions of the butchers actions. Can’t wait to see what the third book holds in store

Great story development
