Summary

Jubal Sackett's urge to explore drove him westward, and when a Natchez priest asks him to undertake a nearly impossible quest, Sackett ventures into the endless grassy plains the Indians call the Far Seeing Lands. He seeks a Natchez exploration party and its leader, Itchakomi. It is she who will rule her people when their aging chief dies, but first she must vanquish her rival, the arrogant warrior Kapata. Sackett's quest will bring him danger from an implacable enemy, and show him a life, and a woman, worth dying for.

Timeless

I was first introduced to Louis L'Amor in Germany in the U.S. Army. Someone just left it on my bunk. I never did find out who left the book on my bunk. I did find out there were several books by Louis L'Amor in circulation within our barracks, about 120 man. I'm not 100% but I think it was part of the Sackett series.
If you never read one of his books I highly recommend it.

Great Story and Another Great Performance

Another great book. Jubal finally finds his "mate", but still doesn't completely settle down. Fast action all the way from beginning to end. Very well narrated by John Curless, as always. Don't miss this one.....

Reads slower than other Sackett series books

Gotta love Louis L'Amour books - such quick easy reads! This one dragged on a bit, but if you are reading the series, you need to read this one anyway. :-)

What historical fiction should be

My father exposed me to L'Amour when I was a child. Dad's favorites where Westerns like Hondo. I was aware of the Sackett saga, but hadn't really got into them until Audible. If you find Curless difficult give him a chance through a few chapters. The narrator of these stories shouldn't sound like John Wayne. Jonn Curless it spot on. What can you say about L'Amour he was a master story teller and the The Sacketts is his masterpiece. I have listened to over 65 titles of various genere, but this is one of the rare ones I will listen to again.

Sackett Series

Our family LOVES the Sackett Series. It's to bad that Louis died before he could finish all he intended in the series. The history is fasitating, the chacters are real as you listen to the story line. Each book goes along with the others but does not have to be in order to understand the story. We have listened to several of the stories more than once. In fact we had most all of the Sackett books on tape or CD and are now purchacing them all over again through Audible. Anyone interested in early American history and lore will appricate all of the series. Jubal Sackett is the longest of the books in the series, and our favorite, so far.

Jubal Sackett at last

When I first heard of the Sacketts I pictured the 1940s Bonanza or Gun Smoke era. It has been an eye opening experience to listen to these amazing stories. I can see why a generation of baby boomers and ww2 veterans bonded with their tales. They speak of a gentle time of peace, with a sprinkling of “taking care of business”. Onward ho!

Always good, Louis L'Amour's books!

"The Sacketts" are a great series within L'Amour's body of work, and this book is no less. Jonn Curless is a good narrator and manages to give all the characters their own individuality through voice and accent. very good "read"!
