Summary

It was supposed to be a way to end the devastation in the Middle East, but instead a darkness is unleashed unlike anything the world has ever seen before.

Ike Glass is well versed in chaos, but even he is unprepared for what the world will become after the outbreak. Ace Cullen has been loyal to his country ever since he was brought to the states as a young boy, but it's difficult to stand by a country that can't even take responsibility for their own actions. Phoenix Blue just wants a night of mindless sex...is that too much to ask? Always a black sheep, she shocks everyone as she finds the strength inside herself to protect the ones she cares about, and fight to see another day. They were strangers when the virus took over, but tragedy will bring them together in ways they never thought possible as they descend into the darkness.

Overall fun and enjoyable start to the series.

I was kindly given a copy of the audio book of Kira Adams Into The Darkness for an honest review.

3.5 Stars

This is the first part of the Darkness Falls series and was a good introduction to the world. I actually didn't realise this was YA to start with and from switching from a fairly lengthy tome of a Stephen King novel it did somewhat feel a little jarring but that said this quick read managed to pack a punch even at times I wanted parts of the characters fleshed put a little more but I'm guessing in later parts they will be.

The first person writing style and tone made it impossible not to compare this to some of Mira Grants books but for a younger audience. This isn't a criticism but I hope will give people clues about the atmospherics and to some extent the setup.

Some of the twists really took me by surprise whilst one of the major ones I had guessed early on. At times I felt like the book might be falling into certain tropes but was glad to see that it swerved these and helped keep things exciting.

With the book moving along at such speed it sometimes feels like the urgency of certain scenes possibly isn't conveyed as well as it needs to be and at times I wished we could have just had a little more dialogue or scene setting but overall this was an enjoyable read and a good introduction to the series which left on a solid cliffhanger.
