About this listen

Invasions and sabotage. Two civilizations doing anything to exist. War crimes are the norm.

Joe takes his first step into exile, and is promptly unable to breathe. This new Zone has a higher concentration of power, magnitudes denser. His first task is to survive, but mere survival is the least of his concerns.

The Zone he has landed on has been in a state of constant war for thousands of years, a tug of war between the Elven and Dwarven societies. Not choosing a side is the same as declaring both to be your personal enemy. Though he is resistant, Joe reluctantly decides to go with the group he thinks will help him grow the most - and is instantly plunged into their bitter war. To gain the freedom he desires, Joe needs to turn to the less savory aspects of his class.

Engulfed by darkness, Joe can only hope he’ll be able to snuff out the light.

for some reason the narrator decided to soak really slowly for dwarves, resulting in them sounding like backward, slow children. worse it makes it very difficult to listen to.

Shame as the story is great

terrible narration

the jokes are less inventive, the story less creative, the tropes semi repeated and the abilities less well structured.

but it still holds the elements of the story that make the series good.

the performance seems to make voices a bit too annoying and artificial than representative of what they should portray.

not as good as normsl

A wonderful next chapter in the adventures of Joe. Loved the progression, humour and characters both new and old. Dakota is going from strength to strength in this series. Highly recommended.

Keeps getting better and better

Keep it coming Dakota 👏
Brilliant characters, a good story line and a fantastic orator. Going straight to book 7 👌

Just great 👍

Much better than the last two books.

This series should be considered a mix of childrens and YA now and should be categorised as such. If it was I feel it would receive far fewer critical reviews.

Joe as a character is somehow getting dumber and his memory and discipline worse as his the stats that are supposed to stop that increase. A good example of that is his lack of characteristic stat training or daily query training. Especially given the initial character setup of Joe completing every character assessment test early in the first book to establish he is the sort of character that would act like that.

I can understand that this is an attempt to stop power creep but given the writer designed the world this way they should embrace it and go with it. if you think about in-game time there should be a % of lvl 1 max stat with an achievement for it esq characters already in game.

The book still has pacing issues narratively and I can again only assume it's down to a yesman style editor not being strict enough with Dakota and or Dakota unable to kill their darlings (in this case written scenes not characters).

Should be categorised as a children's book
