Summary

From USA Today best-selling author Devney Perry comes a small-town, enemies-to-lovers romance.

Winslow Covington believes in life, liberty, and the letter of the law. As Quincy, Montana’s new chief of police, she’s determined to prove herself to the community and show them she didn’t earn her position because her grandfather is the mayor.

According to her pops, all she has to do is earn favor with the Edens. But winning over the town’s founding family might have been easier if not for her one-night stand with their oldest son. In her defense, it was her first night in town, and she didn’t realize that the rugged and charming man who wooed her into bed was Quincy royalty.

Sleeping with Griffin Eden was a huge mistake, one she’s trying to forget. He’s insufferable, arrogant, and keeps reminding everyone that she’s an outsider. Winslow does her best to avoid Griffin, but when a woman is found dead on Eden property, the two of them have no choice but to cross paths.

As clues to the murderer lead to one of Quincy’s own, Griffin realizes Winslow is more than he gave her credit for. Beautiful and intelligent, she proves hard to resist. For him. And the killer.

Dual Narration with Jason Clarke and Vanessa Edwin - absolutely loved this narration and feel like both narrators suited their characters perfectly.

Once Griff and Winn got over their dislike for each other, they created a deep and intense connection together!!

This book had the perfect amount of spice with just the right amount of mystery sprinkled in amongst the plot line. Winslow is a bad ass Chief of Police so she is a seriously strong female, even after all she’s been through. And Griffin….man OH MAN, just so much SWOON there!!!

Seriously go read the series!

"I don't think I could quit you if i tried."
"Even if we fight?"
"Especially when we fight."

A wonderful slow burn

☁️ Thoughts
I really enjoyed this start to the series. The connection between Win and Griffin was palpable, and their romance gripped me from the start. I do wish we had more focus on them as a couple throughout the book as the mystery plot took over at times. I still really enjoyed this, though, and I loved getting to meet the Eden family / seeing their dynamics together. I'm excited to continue on and read more from them!

This was a re-listen for me as I'm buddy reading it with a friend as she hasn't read it before and i have the last two books in the series to get to. I loved it just as much this time around as I did the first. I enjoyed everything about this, the small town, the family dynamics of the Edens, the relationship between Win and Griffin and how that develops, the mystery aspect was great when I first read it and took an unexpected turn which I enjoyed. Both narrators did a fantastic job with their performances.
