It was hailed as the answer to the obesity epidemic; a pill that allows you to eat anything you like and still lose weight. Millions were attracted by the promise of a leaner, fitter body, but there was a fatal and unforeseen flaw in this new panacea. A tiny microbe, lurking within, slowly infects the users. In turn they pass the infection to others with a sneeze, a cough or a simple kiss, and before long tens of millions are infected and turned into mindless, shambling wrecks, with the sole purpose of existing to eat.

As anarchy and civil war took grip across the globe, Britain was quarantined. The press was nationalized, and martial law, curfews, and rationing were implemented. It wasn't enough. An evacuation was planned. The inland towns and cities of the United Kingdom were to be evacuated to defensive enclaves being built around the coast and the Scottish Highlands and in the Irish Republic. For George Tull and the other residents of the Waverly-Price Retirement Home, walking to the coast is not an option.

Yippee! A new British Post Apocalyptic Series.
Thoroughly enjoyed this first Post Apocalyptic via Audible from GJ Stevens. Great plot that builds in excitement that led a binge listen!
Well narrated by Jim Harbourne - if this is his first narration on Audible, it certainly won’t be his last! Great character differentiation - female characters and various regional accents were very well done.
I hope there will be many more in this series.

Fantastic Listen!
Refreshing, fast paced, well written and believable! Loved this listen From start to finish. I found myself getting really invested in the characters also. I love the genre but find myself listening to a lot of American Authors as they tend to have an edge ... not this time. And the narration was well pretty excellent... I normally find myself irritated by the boring hum drum of the British voice. Especially when they try to be ever so... but this was run of the mill, ordinary voice that I didn't want to stuff my ears up and rock in a corner in pain over. most excellent! love love loved it!

Fast paced zombie fest!!
This was the first audio book that I have finished. I tend to stick to autobiographies if I ever find time to read! A little persuasion from my little sister prompted me to start using Audible.
Once I had downloaded this book I have to admit I was a little shocked to see there was 91 chapters! Please don't let this put you off!! It becomes irrelevant and I found myself wanting more.
The story is based around a zombie apocalypse but from the view of ordinary people. It is fast paced and does jump between characters. On many occasions I found myself saying " oh just one more chapter" I couldn't put it down! I found myself completely immersed in the story.
I look forward to the next instalment.

A must for any ZomPac fan
Damn! I was totally taken with the beginning of a, hopefully, long series. Set in England it details, quite well of a man, slightly adventurous but anything but the action hero that immediately steps in to take charge. Logan is an ordinary man out with his circle of friends intending to celebrate the New Year in a rent cottage in Cornwall.
He and ten friends were celebrating when the lights went out.
Logan is inadverdantly thrust into role of leadership even though he is just as lost as everyone else. After their first encounter with the infected leaves them divided, most refuse to believe until it is almost too late as they loose one of their own. Still Logan does not feel he is the one to take the lead but as they fight for survival he does what he believes is best, making mistake after mistake yet somehow coming through each ordeal.
He is at once resentful that they look to him for answers while at the same time showing disdain and questioning his choices. But he continues because he has no choice.
(possible spoilers)
After loosing their means of transport and another harrowing escape they come across a small boy, who may or may not hold the key to a cure for the virus that has ravaged the country.
Logan grows as a leader as he fights of the Reanimated as well as looters fighting them off along with Cassie whom he is attracted to as she is to him.
Logan grows in small increments as he finds strength to do what he must as he trys leads his small group to what he hopes will be help.
And we must not forget the Military who have suddenly appeared, far too quickly to evacuate those not infected and quickly dispatching them properly?
This is a must read for any ZomPoc fan as G. J. Stevens shows his talent switching from each major player in this novel and their harrowing escape from the reanimated.
Really looking forward to the next installment

Starts Slow with Some Improvement
Maybe it is the British factor, but I had a hard time relating to the characters in the book. The main character seems to worry a lot and be somewhat detached from the real events going on around him. There is almost too much going on with the power plant issues, outbreak of some kind and the main characters running around with no clear plan. Even when they meet up with government scientists, their actions seem unfocused and alternate between suspicious and trusting. The overall book is a bit choppy and erratic, but you can follow the plot.
I was given this free audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
