Summary

Taking place a generation after The Talismans of Shannara, The Voyage of the Jerle Shannara: Ilse Witch opens with the discovery of a body. Only two people understand its significance: Walker Boh, the last of the Druids and a familiar character to Shannara fans, and the Ilse Witch, a beautiful but dark young woman who wields a potent magic. Thus begins the voyage of the Jerle Shannara in a race to uncover the mystery, which of course includes an unusual cast of characters: an Elven prince; a monstrous creature who is part man, part enigma; and a young man who may unknowingly hold the key to the success of the mission. For he is the only one who can call upon that ancient talisman, the Sword of Shannara.

For the legions of fans who've been captivated since the very first Shannara novel, this eagerly anticipated new chapter in Terry Brooks' signature series will be reason to celebrate. The Voyage of the Jerle Shannara: Ilse Witch offers an intriguing invitation to plunge again into the enthralling world of the best-selling Shannara adventures.

Gutted

So disappointed when I discovered to little to late that this was not an unabridged version of one of my favourite series growing up.

Sorry Sam Fontana but I could not listen to your narration past the 2 minute mark!

Sincerely hope that an unabridged version is released with Scott Brick narration. I have been listening to the complete Shanarra chronicles in order and now feel I can’t go on☹️. It’s a good job I have read the books before.

Truly awful narrator

I would much have preferred an unabridged version although I'm not sure i would've been able to put up with the narrator that long. It's a shame that an unabridged version wasn't available though. Ive read the book and missing so much out definitely is to the detriment of the story.
The narration was appalling, there is no other way to describe him I'm afraid. Most of the male characters were delivered in an exaggerated tone such as announcers awards on tv as though reading a notice. The female characters were delivered in a similarly strange manner whikst the dwarf was intoned as though he was a character in a children's novel. Awful just awful.

excellent audio book

I read this book many years ago. As an audio book I think I enjoyed it even more. My only criticism would be the narrator's interpretation of the voices of the characters. But overall 5 stars.

Great story, wish I could have heard the whole thing. An unabridged version would be nice.

abridged? what for? <br />

I can't understand why an audio book has been abridged. Terry Brooks is an amazing writer of fantasy adventure, to cut this story down like it has been is a disgrace

Too short

Why does audible not have the unabridged version. The whole book would have been much better.

Abridged?!??

Not even half the story. Disappointing. Narrator did pretty good though. I’ll listen to the other two I guess.

Ugh, don't like ABRIDGED please make UNABRIDGED!

Any additional comments?

I downloaded this super quickly after listening to/reading all other previous books. I didn't realize it was ABRIDGED until it was too late. I tried to pick the book up after listening and was confused why I couldn't find my place. Every other previous book in the Shannara series are not abridged, why is this one? Ugh! I don't like missing out on information and not being able to go from reading to listening.

Abridged version only?

What would have made The Voyage of the Jerle Shannara better?

The full book, audiobooks make the reading experience very quick as it is and the abridged version cuts out way to much to not also include an unabridged version. Hopefully you notice the abridged tag, I didn't and thought it was just Terry's writing until the end where they announced it was abridged.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Walker or Big Red, just cause how can it not be. Only problem is that so much was cut out I feel like alot of it was probably character stuff.

Which character – as performed by Sam Fontana – was your favorite?

Big Red, the rest of the voices where a bit iffy but you cant knock a guy for having to come up with so many voicing for a very character heavy book.

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from The Voyage of the Jerle Shannara?

None the abridged version is too short as it is.

Terrible Narrator

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

I bought this not realizu=ing that it was an abridged copy.
I hate abridged books!

Has The Voyage of the Jerle Shannara turned you off from other books in this genre?

No, only the narrator.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

I felt like I was listening to a Saturday morning cartoon. Only those sound more realistic.

Any additional comments?

Stop putting out abridged copies and find a narrator that can do the job correctly
