The ultimate guide to building an app-based business - now revised and updated

Apps have changed the way we communicate, shop, play, interact and travel, and their phenomenal popularity has presented possibly the biggest business opportunity in history.

In How to Build a Billion Dollar App, serial tech entrepreneur George Berkowski gives you exclusive access to the secrets behind the success of the select group of apps that have achieved billion-dollar success.

Berkowski draws exclusively on the inside stories of the billion-dollar app club members, including Instagram, Whatsapp, Snapchat, Candy Crush and Uber, to provide all the information you need to create your own spectacularly successful mobile business. He guides you through each step, from an idea scribbled on the back of an envelope through to finding a cofounder, building a team and attracting (and keeping) millions of users, all the way through to juggling the pressures of being CEO of a billion-dollar company (and still staying ahead of the competition).

If you've ever dreamed of quitting your nine-to-five job to launch your own company, or if you're a gifted developer, a seasoned entrepreneur or just intrigued by mobile technology, How to Build a Billion Dollar App will show you what it really takes to create your own billion-dollar mobile business.

Definitely interesting!

Listening in 2020 and it seems quite outdated (but by nature of talking about tech companies that’s expected)

Interesting but repetitive

Obviously if are building an app it’s very useful to learn how to scale the business. It felt like some sections were repeated at points. This will be something of a reference book and likely you’d come back to it which is why it may do this.

Satisfying delivery.

I wish if George, discussed more in depth details about the backend development and software development methods in general for all these apps he's mentioned and given examples of.

Read this before starting an App. Business

Fantastic book, practical and very digestible information. Even if you’re thinking of just starting any App business read it - if you have an App business read it. Great insight and amazing thoughts and ideas and clearly sets out the various stages you have to go through, including most importantly put falls! I would highly recommend this book.

Very well written and in-depth

The author goes in detail of a lot of things:

How to do market research?
How to come up with an idea that will sell?
How to hire the best people?
How to take your app to market?
How to market your app?
How to fund your app from it's inception all the way to a billion dollars?

He talks about series A and series B funding. Everything is well described.

Loved every part of the audio book.

I am planning to buy the paperback too.

Useful and entertaining

An enjoyable story with lots of useful tips and snippets along the way. Excellent example of MVP - the question ' do we need to make the button bigger or does our user just have fat fingers?' v funny. All in all a very useful book that you'll soon have filled with notes in the margins and pages bookmarked.

More of a business business book.

The first part of the book discussed a few intersting bits on building a good app and then the rest of it was about the business side of running a company, and mostly about raising funds. A few well known apps were used as examples and discussed mostley thier figures, valuations and buyouts. I enjoyed some of analysis tools and metrics for measuring the profitability and effectiveness of an app, but otherwise found the 2nd half of the book a bit dry. This is definitely a book more suited for entrepreneurs than developers.

There are interesting ideas

There are interesting idea, but nothing new under the sun. It talks a little bit about Lean Startup and Scrum applied to Apps. Generally if you are a developer and you read the lean startup, I don't think you gain much out of this book.

Understanding the App Business

I found this book loaded with information for running an app business. Even though it is really geared to running a venture backed company, there where many take-aways for someone who is running a smaller organization.

much better than I thought it would be

The name kind of threw me off at first. I figured it would be some gimmicky book full of selling you their services, but it wasn't. it's literally a how to book on how to get into the billion dollar app club.
some things might be a bit dated by now, but not too much, and that doesn't mean the info isn't still valuable. business is still business.
