About this listen
His duty is to the flames.
His heart belongs to her.
Which will he let burn?
Being a wildland firefighter is all I’ve ever known. It’s my greatest passion. But this dangerous job destroyed my parents’ marriage, so I knew I’d never be a relationship kinda guy.
All of that changes when my best friend moves his recently widowed – and pregnant – younger sister and her two kids in next door. I’ve been crazy about Teddy for years. And after I assist in her emergency home birth, I find myself spending more and more time near her and her kids. Teddy’s heart is locked up after losing her husband, and breaking down her defences is damn near impossible . . . but I want to show her that I’m here to stay. For all of them.
As superintendent, my duty to my crew has always been my priority. But with Teddy’s heart on the line, can I give up the only life I’ve ever known? Or am I doomed to be honor bound and lose the only woman I’ve ever loved?

That said, this was easily the best audio experience for me - the narration flowed naturally and I didn’t need to adjust my listening speed at all, which made it far more immersive than the others.
I appreciated the focus on single-mum reality, emotional growth, and the quieter moments of connection, even if the story itself didn’t grip me as strongly as the previous books.
What it did do well was provide satisfying loop closure for the series, tying things together in a way that felt complete and intentional.
2.5 🌟 book 4 🌟 audio.
