Summary

A Buchanan brother finds a love to treasure in this scintillating historical romance from New York Times best-selling author Lynsay Sands....

After escaping from the English soldiers who attacked her home and imprisoned her in a dungeon, Lady Elysande de Valance is grateful for the rugged Scots who are escorting her to safety in the Highlands. Even with danger dogging their every step, she hadn’t expected to welcome the strong comforting embrace of their leader, Rory Buchanan. They say he’s a healer, but she finds the heat of his touch does so much more....

Let his brothers get married - Rory is too busy tending to the sick to be bothered with wooing a bride. But when he is tasked with accompanying a family friend’s “treasure” to the Highlands, he is surprised to learn the treasure is a beautiful woman on the run - and even more surprised to discover bruises hidden by her veil. Rory makes it his mission to tend to her injuries and protect her, but the thought of losing her makes him realize that perhaps it is his heart that is most in need of healing....

Healer and worrior 🌾🌿🍀🌺🗡️🛡️

I couldn't wait for Rory's story, throughout the whole series he was an integral character and a much loved one as well, so it was lovely to finally see Rory getting his HEA. this book is not as sexy as some of the previous books in the series but the story itself was good.
The only complaint I really have is that in this book we have non of the other siblings with the exception of Alick, which I was sad about as I loved the siblings interactions when they help one another to solve the problem. I was also hoping to find out that Aulay and Jetta have a child yet it was not mentioned which I was sad about. Lastly there wasn't too much of a drama or mystery to solve and the traitor was a little obvious as Rory suspect and mention him by name. Lastly the narrator was good but sadly was not good at pronouncing the Scottish names, would have prefared a narrator with Scottish accent as was previously done.
All in all good book which to me didn't disappoint 😁.

loved it

Loved every second of it. I just couldn't stop listening. I love this series so much I can't get enough of it. But I missed the rest of Rory's family. i love it when they're all included in the stories. Derek Perkins was brilliant as always his voice makes listening to the story so much nicer. Can't wait for Alec's story. And maybe Una and McGregor's and Gavin McLeod's.

Always loved this series

Right off the bat I’m going to sound ungrateful because other than giving away the story (which I won’t) I just need to know when’s the next one coming out? See ungrateful. I love this book and this series.

The best of this series .

I've enjoyed this whole series, but to date I would say this has been the best. Imagining a place and a family with such love and loyalty is heart warming.

MOSTLY ENJOYED THIS BOOK

For the most part, I enjoyed this book. I just felt there could have been a little more emphasis on "romance" and less on the "descriptive" violence of this story. That being said, it was a different storyline than most and kept my interest.

I gave this book a 4 star rating for performance because I think the voice of Derek Perkins sounds too old to belong to a handsome highlander. I don't say that in a mean way, I like the narration of Derek Perkins, just not for this genre.

Lacking Passion

This reads like something a high school student would write for a homework assignment. No love for the characters, the plot felt forced and formulaic. She always has someone trying to kill a main character - and of course even when it looked like this might be something fresh and interesting - nope, back to same old worn pattern.

Lynsay used to have so much character and sparkle and humor in her work. Lately all her new stuff has felt like forced work done because she has to, not because she wants to.

Decent story but not the best of the series

I had high hopes for Rory’s story and was really looking forward to it. Meh, but I don’t regret spending the credit. Wish there was more focus on the interaction between the main characters. Good story but the first third was a bit drawn out. Narrator was much better than some of the others in this series. If you are a fan of the series you will enjoy it - at least there is no arrows or poisoned drink as there had been in the last several. Here’s hoping Alex’s story will be coming soon.

And a castle from a king.

What a great story. It had so many intertwining stories and a wonderful cast of characters. I bet I could name at least 10 people. Many of the characters had very strong roles. The tale was wonderful, the characters will stay with you for awhile. I think it is one of my favorite true love story with a wonderful couple.

Tedious

I wish there was more emphasis on a story and relationships in it. Pretty much everything menial is over described to a pointless extent. The author also seems to know pretty much nothing about the time period, how thinks were made, how people behaved or anything really. Seems like just a modern daw woman making stuff up that she thinks sounds right. You can’t order a clay pot and have it ready an hour later ( running your medieval kiln takes like days).

The author also overuses words- I am pretty sick of the word “buttocks” at this point. This book is pretty tedious and I’m thinking it would be a good one to return.

Disappointing

Usually I love Lindsay’s books, sadly this one was obvious and disappointing. The only reason I kept listening was because of my loyalty to Lindsay. But I definitely regret using one of my credits for this book.
