Summary

National Best Seller

An up-close portrait of the mind of an addict and a life unraveled by narcotics - a memoir of captivating urgency and surprising humor that puts a human face on the opioid crisis.

“Raw, brutal, and shocking. Move over, Orange Is the New Black.” (Amy Dresner, author of My Fair Junkie)

When word got out that Tiffany Jenkins was withdrawing from opiates on the floor of a jail cell, people in her town were shocked. Not because of the 20 felonies she’d committed, or the nature of her crimes, or even that she’d been captain of the high school cheerleading squad just a few years earlier, but because her boyfriend was a Deputy Sherriff, and his friends - their friends - were the ones who’d arrested her.

A raw and twisty, pause resisting memoir that sounds like fiction, High Achiever spans Tiffany’s life as an active opioid addict, her 120 days in a Florida jail where every officer despised what she’d done to their brother in blue, and her eventual recovery. With heart-racing urgency and unflinching honesty, Jenkins takes you inside the grips of addiction and the desperate decisions it breeds. She is a born storyteller who lived an incredible story, from blackmail by an ex-boyfriend to a soul-shattering deal with a drug dealer, and her telling brims with suspense and unexpected wit. But the true surprise is her path to recovery. Tiffany breaks through the stigma and silence to offer hope and inspiration to anyone battling the disease - whether it’s a loved one or themselves.

Brilliant in depth back story of one woman's fight

I'll start with thanking you Tiff for being so open with readers. I would suggest this to anyone either fighting addiction or dealing with someone close who's an addict. tiff you had a hard road, but thankfully you found the help you needed, and accepted it. ive personally never had addiction issues, but have helped many friends with their fight. you bared it all, and I enjoyed that you didn't hold back. if your story could help just one person to know it's not the end, and that they can overcome this monster then you have achieved more than most. I hope that those you hurt hear this, and in their own way can forgive you. I don't even know you, and I'm very proud of you. I sometimes catch your live chats, and always think we would be great friends.
you're book is the first audio book I listened to, and finished. most tend to bore me. so well done on that as well lol. enjoy your life as you are.

One of the most badly written books I’ve read

Not to diminish her experiences, not a comment on the content, but the way this is written reminds me of stories I wrote when I was 12 years old.

Amazing

enjoyable read despite it being in parts, as described by her ''bad therapist'' as being somewhat unbelievable.. I do wonder about the authenticity of certain details but the story was enjoyable nonetheless

Heart grabbing honesty

....my early thoughts were 'there but through the grace of God go i' ....yes, you love the ironic humor but when you 'get it', you just feel indebted to Tiffany for her courageous honesty, give your own thanks she came through the other side....feel how humbled one can be by trying to understand the cosequences of addictions and in dealing with them daily in choosing the word 'no' while continuing to tackle the other broken parts....such a brave book...thanks, tiffany..

Highly inspirational !

The audio version of this book is incredible! Having the author narrate makes the experience more meaningful. Tiffany has a unique down to earth personality and listening to her tell her story in her own voice was quite moving. While based largely on her substance abuse and the path of destruction it took her on this book is for everyone not just those in recovery. She addresses the life events that prompted her into stepping into the world of alcohol and substance abuse, which include depression and anxiety. The author inspires the reader to get out of their comfort zones and embrace their awkwardness!! I highly recommend this book!

It’s ok

It’s ok, get tired of how selfish the main character is and dramatic. It’s just ok.

One of the best books I have EVER listened to.

Tiffany is the most amazing human I have ever seen. Her truth and candor is unlike any other. I watch her VLOG and can't get enough of her. She is freaking hilarious!! I want to be her friend. I wish we could hang out. This story is so good I think it should be a movie. The was she describes her story is so detailed I could see it playing through in my head!!!

Amazing!

Tiffany is just perfectly real. Fell in love with her realness in motherhood on Juggling the Jenkins and haven't been able to quit her. Great book, and I loved the she narrated it herself.
Thanks for sharing your story Tiffany!

I Get it, You Were an Addict

I've been in recovery for 32 years and I applaud Ms. Jenkins on turning her life around. But, my God, to go through every excruciating detail of her usage and then focus so little on her recovery? Just not for me. The miracle of getting sober is what it is complicated, hard to describe and incredibly beneficial for a wider audience to understand. Relating the behavior that leads to sobriety is mostly dull as toast, repetitive and indulgent. That is certainly the case here. Every addict thinks their story is so UNIQUE, hate to say it, we're all pretty much the same plateful of problems and hijinks.

Cringeworthy

I’ve been reading for a long time and this is the worst “writing” I’ve encountered outside of my college fiction courses. Clumsy, lazy sentence construction riddled with cliche after cliche. Awkward use of vulgar language. And a tedious description of her time in jail. I stopped after 10 pages or so, and returned my audio book for something better, by which I mean anything else.
