Ash is technically a fire mage, but he can't do much. Turning his bedroom lights on and off without having to get out of bed isn't exactly awe inspiring, not when anyone with the right gadget could clap and do the same thing.

Honestly, Hellhounds Never Lie hit the exact mood I was in—light, quick, romantic, and low-drama. The insta-love worked for me because, well… mates! I appreciated how upfront Ash and Dillon were about their connection; it made the romance feel confident and cozy rather than rushed. Their protectiveness was adorable, and the way their powers meshed added that extra spark.

The setting—a sort of magical utopia—was charming, even if the world-building didn’t go super deep this time around. Still, I can see where it could go, and that’s exciting. I’m definitely curious to see what happens next in Willow Lake and get to know the rest of the cast.

This is the perfect pick if you’re craving a quick, magical romance with all the cozy mate feels.

This is okay and kinda cute in places but the plot is so messy and unresolved. I’m sure the plot is over arching and will continue in the rest of the series but it’s just messy and feels very rushed in this. I don’t mind an over arching if the series is focused on one character or couple. This isn’t, so a book in a series like this should have resolutions for each couple.
It also feels as though you’ve been dumped into the middle of an established series, the world building is not great! For a bunch of supposedly powerful supes they constantly seem perplexed and have no clue as to what is going on. I knew who it was the second the “villain” was introduced, it was so blatantly obvious - so that was a bit disappointing.
Ash and Dillon were okay, but there is zero depth or chemistry to them. The entire book is just too rushed and important parts were either glossed over or forgotten. I also wasn’t a fan of Ash’s magic situation, it was glossed over so fast. Again, no resolution!
I’ve read plenty of this type of quick easy low angst sort of stuff and I enjoy an interconnected series but something just didn’t click right with this.

I did enjoy the variety of side characters and the idea of magical creatures all cohabiting. I will try book 2 and see if it improves but I’m not going to continue with audio this was a waste of a credit so I’ll stick with kindle only!
