Brill

This is a brilliant book to listen to. I loved that both Chase and Xan learn about being together for the first time and what having a family means when some trouble comes calling.

Love love love

I wish I had the words to adequately say how much I loved this book. For two people who understand each other so well due to shared childhood trauma to have found each other is beautiful. The characters had so much depth and I loved listening as they both came to grips with the fact that these feelings were real and right for them.

This is a fantastic slow burn but there is such an element of heat that you just want to speed through it.

Fantastic beautiful amazing book, I just wish it never ended.

Great book!

Chase and Xan were so sweet together. I really enjoyed them both as well as how their backgrounds shadowed each others so much that they could connect so well together.

This was a great slow burn and ended up scorching. Great book.

Friends to lovers, bisexual awakening.

This book is a beautiful friends to lovers, slow-burn, double bisexual awakening.
Both Chase and Xan have never been with a man, even if both of them have been curious in the past in some form or another. They both have a troubled background and have had a hard time growing up, and when they meet as the two odd single men in a crew made up of couples, they strike a friendship; they are both attracted to the other, but they are afraid acting on their attraction may ruin their friendship, so they held back, until they don’t…
I loved the found family, this crew of amazing men helping each other out.
I admit I got confused sometimes and mixed up whose POV I was listening too, maybe because they both have difficult pasts and are adjusting to their new reality, so sometimes I had to take a moment to think who was speaking.

Loved it

I really loved this book. I did pause for a couple of weeks when some angust was introduced (I am a big fan of low angust.) But I tried again, no violence so was able to finish. The premis is Chase and Xan both become best friends before realising they are attracted to each other. I loved the extended family vibe and assume some of the characters will appear in later books.
Overall a great listen, I think the narrator sounds like Greg boudreaux so if you love his work you'll be very happy.

Heart warming

Bob Brill did an excellent job voicing the two main characters. I was never wondering who was talking even when it came to side characters. He brought oomph and emotion to the roles, and had me pulled deep into the story! I liked how he voiced the side characters with just as much individuality as the main characters.

A.D. Ellis did a fantastic job with this story! I love how Ellis brings together a plot, tying all the loose ends together with some angst and drama and always providing a lovely HEA! The characters were all written well and their pasts had them so endeared to readers. They characters fit together like LEGO pieces, and their chemistry and their connection was excellent. They had amazing verbal communication, and were to exploratory and curios in their new relationship.

The whole story and audio was lovely!

A great story with a discovery of a narrator!

Story: Everything about this book worked perfectly from the very beginning. The language and writing style were very well crafted and made for a very pleasant experience.
The creations of both main characters, the found family and their background made for an emotional story with perfectly presented tension and development.

Story: A first one for me from this narrator and I loved his voice! Very well performed, clear and easy to follow. Really spot on!

Sweet but oh so HOT!

How can a book be so sweet and slow burn, and at the same time so, so hot? I loved Hearts Ablaze and that was about my first thought after reading it and trying to decide what to write.

Chase and Xander both had very difficult childhoods. Through happenstance or fate, they both ended up in Indianapolis and among the same circle of friends. What starts out as a true friendship soon developed into much more – even though neither of them had ever dated other men before.

There are so many great things to like in this book. Friends-to-lovers is one of my favorite romance tropes and this one really delivered. There were also cute kids, but not in such a way as to detract from the story. Another great element was Chase being found by a family member he had completely lost touch with.

The above-mentioned things are the sweet part; the hot-as-fire parts are the super sexy times between Chase and Xander. I think they might be the sexiest, hottest and dirtiest stuff that A.D. Ellis has written.

This is the first book I've listened to performed by Bob Brill and I think he did a good job. He doesn't have a lot of books on Audible so perhaps he's relatively new to audiobook narration. He didn't use a lot of different voices but for some reason that didn't bother me with this particular story. I'm guessing that might have something to do with how it was written. In any case, I didn't have any trouble keeping track of who was speaking while listening to the story.

A complimentary copy of this audiobook was provided to me but my review was voluntary and not influenced by the author and/or narrator.

Xan and Chase find friendship and more

Two men with a troubled past, become friends and found that they are more. And even find a chosen family.
A.D. Ellis delivers another great book, the first one in the Forged in the City series.
The narration by Bob Brill is well done, not over the top, but well emphasized when needed. I recommend this book to everyone who likes mm books with a hea for the main characters after building a good live after a challenging childhood due to lack of parenting.
